2017: A new year of action...
From all of us at MASG, we hope you are having a stellar start to the year.
What an amazing community we have in the Shire. So many initiatives and projects driven by people who are inspired for change. Where policies and leaders shift, and institutions and political parties stall, the good people and organisations in our community are taking action.
If you have a local event or initiative to promote, send an email to
e-news@masg.org.au and we can help spread the word.
Sustainable House Education Day (SHED) Sunday 26 Feb
The Mount Alexander Sustainability Group's (MASG) popular tour of environmentally progressive homes is back on Sunday the 26th February 2017.
Featured as part of the 2017 Sustainable Living Festival, local residents of the Mount Alexander Shire are opening their homes to the public to discuss some of the design and build choices they have made in their energy efficient and sustainably constructed homes.
The houses on the tour range from a re-purposed Methodist Church built in 1869, a tiny relocatable home on a trailer, a passive-solar home built from scratch 4 years ago, and a retro-fitted brick veneer 1960s house.
The event is based out of the recycled wonderland that is Lot 19, with morning tea and registrations from 9am-10am, Lunch, and afternoon tea.
Following the house tour a panel discussion will follow, also at Lot 19, including owners of the featured homes, local designers and progressive and energy efficient design experts.
‘We are hoping that people can learn from what we have done, and see that it is possible to retrofit period homes in this climate to really enhance liveability and cut down energy bills,’ says home owner Tosh Szatow,
‘What we have done with insulation is a bit different to what most people do, we have also incorporated a lot of recycled materials while keeping all the period features of the home, so hopefully that gives people ideas. The garden incorporates a wide mix of productive and ornamental plants and 100% of our roof area is captured in a 20,000l rain tank which is unique. We will be sharing the mistakes we have made too!’ says Tosh.
WHEN: Sunday 26 February 2016, 10am – 3pm
Please Note:
9-10am: Morning tea and registrations
3.30pm - 5pm: Afternoon refreshments and Concluding Q&A with Panel with experts.*Q&A is free: tour participants and general public are welcome to attend.
