BEC monthly newsletter 03/2017

Think creatively this March

This month we are bringing you three events: you can ask an expert about your tax obligations, learn graphic design, and debate Brno urbanism with the city chief architect. Do you have a creative itch to scratch? Two articles deal with advice on how to write. Join the 2017 Brno Short Story Writing Contest and win 6,000 CZK.

Simon Mawer: Without writing I am a waste of space
The British author of The Glass Room inspired by the Villa Tugendhat will help judge The Brno Short Story Writing Contest. “For aspiring writers I have two pieces of advice,” he says.

Written by expats

At the movies: T2 Trainspotting - Boyle puts the band back together
Even though this belated sequel won’t be regarded as another era-defining moment in British cinema, it’s extremely enjoyable, with some big laughs and very touching moments. And the music absolutely rocks.

Arts scene: See a giant sand worm aka Olgoj Chorchoj
A bilingual exhibition of a fascinating artistic duo presents their contribution to Czech design over the past 25 years. You can catch it at the Museum of Applied Arts till mid-April.

Food corner: Restaurant day at Piknik Box
An open-air café in a little park behind the Moravian Library hosts a laid-back food festival of (mostly) amateur cooks fulfilling a personal passion.

Anyone who can write a business email or a complaint letter or a witty line on Facebook has enough ability to be able to write a decent short story.
