2017

Hi from team Microcab
2016 was a productive and positive year for Microcab in parallel with steady growth in the wider hydrogen sector and a growing resolution within many organisations to move away from the fossil fuel agenda. We were successful in winning two new grant funding bids from the Advanced Propulsion Centre/Niche Vehicle Network. The first is project D.I.S.C.U.S. - Drivetrain Integration, Supply Chain Upscaling and Streamlining, jointly with MCT, Aston University and HSSMI on the design of a new electric transmission. The second bid, S.E.D. - Smart Electric Drivetrain (with partners Lightfoot and Curtis) is to implement an intelligent user feedback system to improve EV vehicle and driver efficiency. We look forward to a successful year ahead.

Air Quality; a global problem
With stubbornly still air over the UK in the last weeks, air quality was once again in the news for all the wrong reasons. Mayor Sadiq Khan publicly announced emergency pollution alerts in London as poor air from the near continent drifted across to the UK to compound the problem.

Further afield, a colleague returning from a trip to China recently reported finding breathing masks set out on the hotel bed pillows on arrival! The difficulties in getting to grips with poor air should not be underestimated and China is a case in point; expansion of EV use there has exacerbated air quality problems because the majority of Chinese power generation is coal-fired. This in turn has focused an increased interest in the benefits of hydrogen and fuel cells in the context of China's particular problems.
