A celebration of women in Hammersmith

Wednesday, 8th March, 2 - 6 pm

Hammersmith United Charities, with some help from the Big Lottery, is planning a celebration of International Womens Day on 8 March 2017.

Our celebration will call on local women to have a go at something new – we are preparing workshops to try creative writing, sport, horticulture, social enterprise, story telling, childrens activities and more. All free.

The afternoon will celebrate the vital role women play in our community. Many community groups depend on women – to lead; to organise; to campaign; to fundraise. And our community in Hammersmith benefits enormously from the diversity of backgrounds of the women who live here.

We will celebrate at the Askew Road Church
Bassein Park Road, London W12 9RN

A few example activities on the day...

Boxing for all people

with Action on Disability and M.E.M Academy

Natascia (Action on Disability) and Nadia (M.E.M  Academy) will deliver a fun interactive workshop that aims to provide women with an opportunity to find out what boxing is about and what it can do for you! You can put on some gloves and enjoy trying it out.  This workshop will also provide women with a voice for us to better understand what women and girls want from sports locally.

Wiggle Waggle with Keisha

WiggleWaggle is a music and movement programme for Under 5s. Our funky energetic sessions are designed to support the Early Years Foundation Stage and build confidence and social skills, as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle. We have fun using bean bags, shakers, tappy sticks, hula hoops and more. Our sessions add value to the EYFS framework by helping families to be happy and healthy and also by introducing and developing important Early Years vocabulary and skills in preparation for school. We have a brilliant time learning together through singing, movement and creative play. And most importantly, it is fun and children love it! - grown ups too!

Writing to Exhale

Creative writing by the WILDE foundation

Have you been quiet or silenced? Have you stopped yourself from speaking your mind? Do you need a place to let go, shout and release? Writing to Exhale is a unique empowerment writing workshop; created as a space for self expression. This workshop is designed to support you in discovering your writing style. Whether you’re just beginning, need creative inspiration, or want to start journaling with greater discipline; this work-shop will get you started.
