All Bills Are In!
The filing deadline passed yesterday, February 9 th. At this point, all bills for consideration during the 2017 legislative session have been filed. You’ll notice that the Policy Watch has increased in length! Now that legislators are finished filing, the work of the House and Senate committees will increase considerably.
For bills you are especially interested in, check the Senate Status and House Status included in the Policy Watch for those bills’ upcoming committee meetings. Remember that the State Capitol and Legislative Plaza are public places and you can attend committees in-person at any time. You can also live stream or view recordings of all committees at the Tennessee General Assembly website at https://capitol.tn.gov.
Disability Day on the Hill
As mentioned last week, Disability Day on the Hill occurred this past Wednesday, February 8 th. A big thanks goes out to the Tennessee Disability Coalition for sponsoring the yearly event. Whether you’re already actively communicating with legislators or you have a growing desire to get involved, resounding advice from the speakers on Wednesday was to s how up and be heard because legislators and government officials want to hear from the community! It takes us all – self-advocates, family members, professionals, government officials and legislators - sharing our experiences with each other to shape effective policy. Don’t stop now that Disability Day on the Hill is over.
