Common Activity and Public Relations

I’m Sophie from Australia. I loved every minute of my time in Japan, from meeting people and gaining new experiences, to learning about different cultures and countries. I have recently graduated from university where I studied Environmental Science, and as such, am passionate about the environment and educating people about the plants and animals we share the earth with. I love sports, music, meeting new people, and traveling.

For this year’s Common Activity, Travel 'Lookouts,' BC Pakistan members decided to showcase one of the greenest cities in the whole world, Islamabad. The tour started from the Pakistan Monument, which is most popularly known as a historic tribute and a major throwback to the Freedom Movement. The museum has sculptures showcasing early life from Indus Valley Civilization to the British rule over the subcontinent, and also the freedom movement which led to Pakistan. Later, the group traveled to the Lok Virsa Museum, which is not far from the monument and can be easily be regarded as a cascade of Pakistani culture. It has everything from art and music to lifestyle pieces. It also showcases the culture of Iran, Turkey, and Central Asian states.

This was the great activity for both old and new members of BCP to travel together to increase collaboration and break the ice.

But what was more, this activity was also part of the Cultural Exchange Project (CEP), a mini inter-BC activity which evolved from discussions on potential Common Activity ideas back at 28th APCC PA Camp.

OPINION: Distance is Not Necessarily a Hindrance
By Van Nguyen Thi Truc, BRIDGE CLUB Vietnam

Although BRIDGE CLUB Vietnam (BCV) has been established for nearly ten years, it was not until recently that we become more active with various inner- and inter-BC activities. The major reason lies in the geographical distance between BCV members, which has continuously made it difficult for us to gather all members together. These similar stories are being told by members of many other BRIDGE CLUBs (BCs) where members are spread across countries and regions.
