Knitting in Early Modern Europe update
View this email in your browser
Hello All –

Thank you to everyone who attended the Raise thy Cap seminar in Copenhagen. We greatly appreciated the contributions of everyone who travelled from both near and far. We hope you learnt something new about sixteenth-century knitting!

The other big news is that the online team has now grown to more than 130 participants. But there is room for more ... here is the link to sign up. If you know a potential KEME Team member, please do pass it on.

Make observations and take measurements

The pilot KEME database containing information and images of the extant knitted cap linings is now available for you to view. All KEME participants who have completed the online agreement should have received a password to access it - unless you signed up in the past two weeks. New participants will receive passwords before Friday 17 March. After viewing items in the database, you can submit comments here. Complete a separate form for each item you want to review. The pilot database has a few glitches so please bear with us as we fix them.

Completing the observations questionnaire

You will need the inventory number of the individual lining you have looked at to complete the observations questionnaire. These can be found in the database. The online form can be completed as many times as you like provided you comment on one lining per questionnaire. Please submit as much information as possible as the more information we have the better our results will be!

What about the practical part of the project?

Full instructions for spinning and knitting will be released next week. If you have already received a copy of the swircles instructions and are busy knitting, don't worry - the new information will explain more - for example, how to full and finish the completed swircles.

KEME conference

Don't forget there will be a KEME conference in August to discuss the results of the project. We would love to see you there! The dates are Sat 5 and Sun 6 August 2017 and it will be at the University of Copenhagen. Further details will be available soon.
Thank you once again for your interest in the project.  If you have any questions, Rosalind can be contacted at rm572@exeter.ac.uk or I can be contacted at Jmalcolm-davies@hum.ku.dk.
