Community Dinners
Winter is a hard time for many on the Vineyard.  The community of churches and the Hebrew Center would like to do what we can to help.  Free Community Dinners are held every Thursday from January through March at St. Augustine's Church in Vineyard Haven.
The Hebrew Center 'volunteer crew' will organize and serve on the 3rd Thursday of the month, January 19, February 16, and March 16.
Working together can be great fun. The mitzvah of bringing food to the table for hungry people gives you a good feeling!  For more information, please contact Carole Early

Sunday Mornings 11:00 am -12:30 pm
(Please note time change of all classes.)

January 29 - Water is Life
February 26 - Race Relations in America: Black, White, Jewish
More dates and topics to come.

Exodus: The Greatest Story Ever Told
Course Description: Over 5 sessions this spring, we will study and discuss the core narrative of the Jewish People, the Exodus from Egypt. We’ll begin with the descent of Jacob and his family into Egypt and the enslavement of the Israelite by Pharaoh. We’ll discuss the role of God, Moses, and the people in achieving their freedom. After Passover, we’ll study the wandering of the Israelites in the wilderness, their struggle to become a Chosen people, and the revelation of Torah at Mt. Sinai.

Sunday Mornings 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

February 12 - Who is the hero of the Exodus? Is it Moses or G-d? We'll study the Exodus narrative from two different perspectives and look at some of the other heroes in the story, including the midwives, Shifra and Puah.

March 26 - In our last class before Passover, we'll focus on the challenges of achieving freedom. The Israelites departure from Egypt does not happen immediately and includes many false-starts. What can we learn from this process? How do we understand the 10 plagues and the suffering of the Egyptians when we retell this story every year on Passover?
