| | | |  | | FORD HONORED WITH CHAIR OF THE BOARD AWARD FOR RACE RELATIONS
|
| | At today’s Board of Directors meeting, Henry Ford received the Chair of the Board Award in the field of race relations. This award is designed to honor individuals who have made a significant contribution to the community in a specific field of endeavor, and no more than six recipients may be named in a calendar year.
Ford was a catalyst for the creation of the New Braunfels Martin Luther King March celebrating the life and legacy of the civil rights leader. In 2013 an elementary school reader board near Ford’s home stated that school would be closed for a “school holiday,” not for Martin Luther King Day. Afterwards, he read about Jon Michael Franklin petitioning NBISD for that day to be an official named school holiday, which he doubted would occur. Ford’s wife challenged him to “Do something about it,” and he replied, “Okay, I will.”
