I'm so excited to head up to Portland at the end of this month to participate in NCECA 2017 and especially to showcase my Hive Installation as part of the annual exhibition "The Evocative Garden" for the conference. I'll be posted images on my Facebook and Instagram accounts while I'm at the conference, so be sure to follow so you can be in on the excitement too!
About the Exhibit:
The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts is pleased to announce that in 2017, esteemed curator of contemporary craft Gail M. Brown will launch this new series with The Evocative Garden, an international juried and invitational exhibition exploring natural and cultivated worlds.
A breadth of implied and articulated dramas will be staged as a personally defined natural landscape or more formalized garden scenario. In works of ceramic sculpture, installation, object and vessel format, each participant will offer a new or recent work- some potent objectsas-metaphors, with sub-text and, others as choreographed scenes with figuration or the figure/s implied in a verdant location, in vocabularies from nuanced realism to personal symbolism.
Each will be designed to reference an array of issues- nature’s fragility and sustainability, the wild and the tame, life’s appetites and dilemmas, conflict and resolution, the everlasting and the temporal- social and historic events, of the natural world and the human condition. Artists remind us that nature and the articulated garden, as context, stimulation and tactile allure, is a seductive, universal, ever present enticement.

Art in the Arboretum: Site Specific Environmental Installations
Art in the Arboretum was created to promote the arts and to further the connection between the Arboretum, UCSC and the Santa Cruz Community.
Our next, visionary exhibit is Site Specific Environmental Installations. Artists will create works that compliment the gardens. Enhancement to the garden space will be an intricate part of the project, with artists, Arboretum staff, students and volunteers working side-by-side and learning from each other.
These one-of-a-kind installations, a first in Santa Cruz County, will vary in medium and scale engaging the viewer to explore the gardens, discovering works of art along their journey. The exhibits explore different mediums and concepts; they will have a large educational component offering art talks, workshops, and demonstrations.
