rHi Everyone.

Happy New World Order.

Below is lots of news for upcoming things, from our (new time of year and very new location) Create Your Own Solo Show course, to our (new day and time of week) Brighton course Acting Your Truth, to our new Devon dates for the 'seat of the pants brave' show "You Can't Watch This Play", and finally to our small tour of newly branded "5 Star dark comedy"... Happy Hour.

Behind the scenes we're still working (through pitches, re-writes and venue negotiations) to get our new full play out to you. It's changed its name from its working title "I, Refugee" to a new provocative title,.... but mum's the word for now.

More below on other things.

From this paragraph forth it's a different register for each section. See if you can spot which sort of register each is! ooohh..

See you at the bottom of this email...

Solo Show Course Steals Back the Limelight

They say everyone's got at least one novel in them. But for actors it's closer to being a Solo Show. Creating your own one person show is certainly a departure from constant auditions, but taking your career into your own hands, creating your own show and to be The Star of it, is one way out of a cycle of applications, rejections and waiting for the big break.

So say The Cockpit Theatre who, in association with Something Underground Theatre, are now going to show you how to do it, in their “Create Your Own One Person Show” course.
Led by award-winning Jonathan Brown, artistic director of Something Underground, the course will help you get your show on the road.

Jonathan has been creating solo shows for himself and others for 11 years, and has mentored many successful new acts.
He says, “Many actors wait for their opportunities, but if you've got half a mind to get proactive and make your own opportunities (even whilst you wait for the Hollywood call) you'll never regret knowing that it was you that in the end made it happen. And your one person show is a great calling card, showing off all your talents, and can be an incredible confidence boost.”

The main thrust of the course, which runs over five Tuesday evenings in March at The Cockpit, Marylebone, is to work on your material and how you present it, culminating in a scratch performance showcase, in the theatre, with expert direction from Jonathan and feedback from the other participants. There's time for talking production issues too.
With only 6 places, there's plenty of airtime for each participant, and since 2012 many previous participants have gone on to have considerable success, including Brighton Fringe awards, and many great reviews.

“Found this course so helpful, so much fabulous support and input not only from Jonathan but also all the other talented participants. Turned what can be a lonely business into one where I learned much, laughed lots and achieved far more than I hoped. Can’t recommend it enough. If ya thinking about it DO IT!!!”
Lianne Campbell, 2016

You Can't Watch This Play.
Devon: 23rd-26th March. Full dates below...

This bloke's back. The Fool, the weird one.
No script. No plan.
Just you, him, the space between.

Using an empty stage, the moment, and whatever beings inhabit the space to create fragile or robust worlds, where mysteries may or may not emerge.

“ an off-kilter wild-man, ….. (with) nature-filled musings…… like elemental myths you might hear when huddled around a fire…..hypnotically unpredictable………. just peering over the dizzying edge of Brown’s sad, funny, mad world is……. a rush.” The Stage, 2015.

“Thank you for your show. I loved it… a brilliant piece of story telling. It was great to be part of something intimate …. engaging, moving, challenging, compassionate and funny.—— better than pretty much anything I have seen in the theatre over the last couple of years. Afterwards, I felt that I had been taken on a journey and come back knowing something new – which is just what theatre should be like.”
Andrew Miller, co-director, Wishworks Puppet Theatre Company.

“We are very lucky to have an actor like Jonathan Brown on our doorstep” Britt Forsberg

“If you ever get a chance to see this guy GO! Fantastic improvised one man show – very intimate, inventive and honest performance.” Ranmal Burkmar, Audience.

If you are in Totnes or near GO SEE THIS SHOW it is brilliantly funny and seat of your pants brave! Wonderful! Dr Amanda Bolt.
