Engaging Contradictions
February 23: Research Justice in Practice Workshop
4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
470 Stephens Hall, UC Berkeley

How can research be part of the voice and power of marginalized communities? What are examples of this and what prinicples and practices bring this vision to life? This workshop will use interactive formats and practical examples from the experiences of three leading practitioners. This workshop will cover principles and strategies for Research Justice, first-hand accounts of communities using this approach, and ample time for discussion and application of the framework to participants' own work. Some of the projects that will be discussed were featured in the recent book, Research Justice: Methodologies for Social Change, edited by Andrew Jolivétte.

Featuring:
Miho Kim, former Executive Director at DataCenter
Lailan Huen, Oakland-based community organizer
Claudia Reyes, Mujeres Unidas y Activas

This event is free and open to the public. RSVP online

Sponsored by: The Haas Institute for a Fair & Inclusive Society, The American Cultures Center,

"Engaging Contradictons" is a workshop series focused on issues of pertinence to community engaged scholars and the role of the University in the current political climate. The core of this series is the first-hand experience of individuals, organizations, and movements. We are working to create awareness, share knowledge and tools, and strengthen this community.
