India Inaugurates the Next Stage of the World’s Biggest Digital Radio Roll-out by All India Radio
The Honourable Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, Indian Minister for Information & Broadcasting,inaugurateda high-level round table meeting in New Delhi hosted by the DRM Consortium, in collaboration with BECIL. The event was to update and stimulate the interest of key Indian stakeholders in the public phase launch of the project to digitise radio in India. Minister Naidu took the opportunity to also congratulate All India Radio (AIR) and Prasar Bharati on the successful completion of the first phase of the DRM project following the successful installation of 35 DRM digital radio transmitters by AIR. DRM at Broadcast Engineering Society (BES -India)
Representatives of the DRM Consortium participated again in the annual BES Expo 2017 (Broadcast Engineering Society) in New Delhi February 2nd - 4th. During the BES Conference, members of the Consortium presented their views on the development of digital radio and DRM in the world and addressed issues to do with the practical and optimum implementation of the DRM standard. Visitors to the BES Expo met DRM experts who were available to answer questions on DRM receivers, to learn about DRM solutions and applications from several key DRM member representatives (Ampegon, Fraunhofer IIs, Gospell, NXP, Nautel, RFmondial, Communication Systems INC, Transradio).
Hyundai Cars with DRM as NXP and MOBIS India Deploy DRM chips and Receivers Designed in India
Hyundai Mobis has announced the successful completion of field trials of Mobis DRM receivers and NXP chips designed in India.
The chips and DRM receivers are now deployed in DRM-fitted car infotainment receivers available in a newly launched Hyundai vehicle in India. New entry level and luxury car models from Hyundai Motors will feature DRM receivers. Read more

DRM+ for the First Time in Africa- Community Station (WECODEC) - Granted DRM+ Trial Licence in South Africa
The community station run by the Westbury Community Development Centre (WECODEC) has been granted a licence by the South African regulator, ICASA, to start a DRM+ trial in Johannesburg. The trial is scheduled to commence on 1st March will be the first DRM+ trial in Africa.
DRM30 Test Results Made Public by Radio Pulpit in South Africa
The excellent results from a DRM30 MW trial carried out last year by South African broadcaster Radio Pulpit, a member of the DRM Consortium, have been published. Read more

European Radio Show
At the European Radio show held in Paris Jan. 29–31, during one of the conference sessions, DRM members Radio France International took part in a discussion on the status and development of digital radio in Africa. Many countries on the continent now use digital content management systems and are also looking at digitising radio broadcasts.
EBU Digital Radio Summit
During its Annual Digital Radio week the EBU delegates heard that despite challenges for broadcasters, radio listening remains strong. At the meeting, Mathias Stoll, Ampegon AG and Vice-Chair of the DRM Consortium presented the latest news from India where one of the world’s largest digital radio deployment is underway. Read more

Radio Pakistan Starts Conversion to DRM+ Technology
Radio Pakistan has started converting its AM and FM transmitters to DRM+ technology. With DRM for local coverage (DRM+) Radio Pakistan will provide its listeners with clear, feature rich broadcasts. Radio Pakistan’s Director General Khurshid Malik was updated on the project on a recent visit to the national broadcaster. Read more
Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) at ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium (DBS) 2017
The DRM Consortium will hold a workshop at this year’s ABU DBS in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 7th March, 1615-1730 in Conference Room Taming Sari 3. DRM experts will lead the workshop: "Digital Radio Mondiale - practical implementation for success ", will give delegates the opportunity to be updated on the steps to a successful roll-out. DRM Enterprise Award – Africa Region 2017
The DRM Enterprise Award for 2017 will be open to entries from Africa. The DRM Enterprise Award - Africa - is to be presented to an individual or an organisation that has promoted Digital Radio Mondiale successfully, applied innovatively and actively introduced DRM in a specific market.
The winner of the cash prize will be selected by an independent board of specialists, made up of representatives drawn from organisations within the region and representatives of the DRM Consortium.
Previous winners have been the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) and last year’s winners, engineers from Radio Republik of Indonesia, RRI.
