Spring/Summer 2019 Grads: POS Deadline is Feb 21

Reminder:  If you plan to graduate in Spring or Summer 2019 – or are graduating earlier and have not yet submitted this form -- your Program of Study should be submitted to your College Honors Committee by February 21. As we go forward, this submission will be required to maintain the privileges of Honors membership. Questions?  Get in touch as soon as possible with your College Honors adviser or a member of the Honors staff in Jischke.

Sustainable Design Lecture

Calling all design students, engineers, fashion designers, and anyone who has an interest in sustainable design and the relationship between creative practice, human values, and the importance of tradition and localization: save the date for Dr. Stuart Walker's lecture on Monday, April 3 at 5:30pm in the College of Design's Kocimski Auditorium. Stuart Walker is Chair of Design for Sustainability and a Director of the Imagination Lancaster Research Centre at Lancaster University, UK...if you were in HON 321S in Fall 2016, this is especially for you!

Apply for Phi Kappa Phi money

Each year, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards $345,000 to members entering their first year of graduate study. If you are a graduating senior that is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and has earned less than 10 graduate hours (currently enrolled hours do not count), then encourage them to apply for a ΦΚΦ Fellowship to help fund their graduate education!

You’ll also find many helpful resources on our website, including Advice to Applicants, Sample Personal Statements and Sample Work Samples to share with your students.
Interested applicants will submit their materials to their local chapter by their local deadline. The chapter will then submit one nominee to the national competition by April 15, 2017.

Roy J. Carver Scholarship Program

Applications are now available for the Roy J. Carver Scholarship program.  Twenty awards of $5,200 each (renewable for one year) will be awarded for the 2017-18 academic year.
 
Eligibility requirements:

  • Evidence of significant social and economic obstacles to attending college full time
  • Graduate of accredited Iowa high school or Iowa resident for 5 years
  • Junior classification fall 2016
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80
  • Demonstrate financial need on basis of the FAFSA

Research Seminars for Undergraduate Students

Every Wednesday you could attend the “Research Seminars for Undergraduate Students” from 3:10 to 4 p.m in 2155 Marston.  You will have chance to meet two outstanding scientists, learn more about their research, ask questions and find out about research opportunities in their research groups. Work on Campus this Summer

The Office of Admissions: Early Outreach team is seeking current Iowa State University undergraduate students to serve as summer program staff. The staff team will work with talented and gifted students in 3rd-11th grades during five weeks of different summer camps, Adventures and Explorations (OPPTAG). Staff are also hired as day, evening and overnight counselors for the Early Outreach Program (EOP@ISU). This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in education, working with diverse populations, working with young people, and increasing their ability to work as a team. OPPTAG Programs
Adventures is a split shift position, where staff provide supervision and programming before, during the lunch break, and after the courses for talented and gifted elementary and middle school aged students. 
Explorations is a residential program for gifted high school students. Staff are required to live in the residence hall and be available 24/7 during staff training and both weeks of programming. Staff members are compensated for their time, and Explorations staff are also provided housing and a meal plan.

Early Outreach Program (EOP@ISU)
EOP@ISU is two, week-long residential program for motivated Iowa High School students of color or first generation college students.  Daytime counselors assist program staff with planning and implementing academic sessions for the students during the day. Evening and Overnight counselors ensure student’s safety and provide social and recreational activities in the evening. Student Wellness is hiring Peer Wellness Educators for 2017-2018! A Peer Wellness Educator is a new PAID, leadership position in Student Wellness.  Peer Wellness Educators will provide various educational, social marketing, and engagement strategies in innovative ways to connect with their fellow peers at ISU around enhancing their holistic well-being.  Peer Wellness Educators will give presentations to student groups, plan and implement wellness events and programs, create and promote wellness messages/campaigns to other students, among other responsibilities. Applications are due March 24 at noon!
