Welcome to a New Season from Dan Horner, Club President

There's a buzz in the air as the pavilion and new outdoor area project has taken physical form. You can keep up with the progress of the project on the club's Facebook page or here. We hope you all will enjoy this new facility of the club's as much as we expect you will.
Recent Board meetings have reminded me to include a few friendly reminders and notes to the membership:

  • We are not a fast food restaurant. Items are made fresh and to order. If you've never seen the kitchen in person, I assure you it is amazing what our staff accomplishes with such a small space. It was originally designed for 200 members; we are now close to 600. However, we are taking steps to speed up service, especially during "group" time.
  • Outside, we will be keeping the menu at a minimum so that it can be kept speedy. This summer will be a learning curve. Management will experiment with pavilion times until they find out what the demand is. The outdoor menu will be kept simple and separate from the interior menu per the Board to keep service optimized.
  • As we get closer to opening, we'll let you know more about how the outdoor area will be operated. We ask that you respect any decisions or policies that may be enacted as they will be made in order to best serve all of the membership.

From the Pro

Welcome to the 2017 Season!  We are excited for some great play this year and hopefully your New Year’s Resolution was to play more GOLF!  This winter has been quite mild so far and that leads to the hope that we will get a great jump on the upcoming golf season.

The theme for this year “Sharpen the Saw”.  First, it means that you must take care of yourself-you may need to begin an exercise program, or to take more time away from your stress to make time for yourself.  Second, you must work on what needs work; it may be your chipping and pitching game or your putter, but you need to stop neglecting your trouble areas or you will never get better.  Third, help sharpen your saw by discontinuing negative self talk (this may be the hardest section to complete).

For most players negative self talk is the only voice they know while playing and I am quite sure that the most negative of us has no idea how to shut out that voice.  Here are a few ways to help change your voice: a) after you hit a shot try to not react positive or negatively no matter where the shot ends up, be neutral. b)  keep your eye on the horizon with your head up. As I drive the course in the Summer I can always tell who is playing well and who is not just by the direction their eyes are looking.  c)  Keep in mind that golf (however important to you) does not define you as a person.  You must approach golf with humility and you will have much more fun while on the course.

Ladies' Association News

Welcome to the 2017 season! The Ladies' Golf Association's goal is to make 2017 a year of great golf, fun and friendship for our members. We have a full calendar scheduled for the season with events designed to please every level of player. As always, we encourage all female golfers to join our organization. For additional information regarding membership, please contact one of our Executive Board Members.  Check out the Bulletin Board in the Ladies Locker Room for Executive Board Member names and upcoming events.

At last year's Holiday Charity Brunch we raised four hundred and twenty dollars ($420.00), which was donated to Our Clubhouse (formerly known as Gilda’s Club Western PA).  This charity provides comfort, care and hope to those touched by cancer.  Melane Baraniak, the event's hostess, drew Jan Christiansen’s name and she selected the charity.

The Ladies' Association opening dinner will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017, with cocktails at 5:30 and dinner at 6:00. The evening provides a wonderful opportunity to get reacquainted while enjoying a delicious meal. We will be accepting payment of membership dues, fifty dollars ($50) for 2017, prior to the event. For reservations please call the Grill Room.

The first day of play for the Association is Tuesday, April 18, 2017, with a ten o'clock tee time. Please arrive at the course by nine thirty a.m.
