 EVENT HIGHLIGHT

The 2017 New Year Celebration in Maysville was a huge success! The event was a joint effort between Women's Crisis Center and Compehend, Inc. and raised $8000!  The weather was chilly, but with 1500 people in attendance, several food vendors, the band "City Heat" playing, and DJ Lashawn performing, everyone had a great time! Special thanks to the title sponsor, Peoples Bank, and all of the other sponsors that helped to make this event a success!

GIRL SCOUT TROOP DONATES “BIRTHDAY IN A BAG” TO CHILDREN AT WOMEN’S CRISIS CENTER
Junior Girl Scout Troop 1750 in Boone County donated 100 “birthday in a bag” bags to the WCC at the end of December.  The 5th grade troop came up with the project on their own and it took them one year to complete.  The girls of Troop 1750 - Peyton Perez, Jesse Probst, Natalie McCoy, Abbiegayle Spicer, Brooklyn Rodenberg, Halina Mullane - were able to earn the Bronze Award after finishing this project.  The Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn.

Troop leader, Anastasia Perez said, “This project was the brainchild of all the girls. Each had their own ideas but were able to incorporate all of the ideas into one project and bring a smile to children in the area that are less fortunate than they are. The "Birthday in a Bag" project took this group of Troop 1750 a full year to coordinate and put together allowing each girl to experience a birthday and realize the impact they would be having on other children in Boone County. With the ever-growing list of activities for girls available in Boone County it fills me with pride knowing that I am able to mentor these girls, giving them the opportunities to give back to the community in which we reside. Although the girls will not directly see the impact of their project, they know that it will bring a smile to 100 faces on their birthday.”

When the girls were asked the best part of the experience, the overwhelming response was "happiness" and "friendship".

Thank you Troop 1750 for your support of WCC!!!
