Online Testing Proctor Options
The online testing window is March 20-31, 2017. There are two options available for completing the state online exam requirement for the SkillsUSA Tennessee State Leadership and Skills Championships. You must select one option below, and complete the appropriate form hyperlinked by March 2, 2017.
- Option A: Designate your own proctor to test on-site at your school.
- Option B: Schedule with your local TCAT for proctoring service.
Required Exams:
ALL contestants will need to complete the SkillsUSA Tie Breaker Exam which is managed through our D2L system. The study guide for tie breaker exam available online through Quizlet.
In addition, certain contests, especially the skilled/trade, will have a general knowledge exam specific to their contest area. Some contest specific exams are managed through the D2L system. Other contests have an contest specific exam managed through the Workforce Ready System called SkillConnect assessments. The testing details chart document gives the type of required exams for each of our state contests.
This is the first step for scheduling your exams, additional details will be sent after the option selection deadline passes.

$2,000 Chapter Excellence Grant
The Chapter Excellence Grant, sponsored by Lowe's, is an exciting opportunity for chapters to be recognized for exemplary chapter performance and to receive a $2,000 grant. The SkillsUSA’s Chapter Excellence Program (CEP) establishes a quality baseline that all chapters are encouraged to attain, with extra incentive for exemplary performance. The program consists of four award levels, with the first three recognized by the state and the final level eligible for national recognition. The 24 chapters recognized as models of excellence will receive a $2,000 section or chapter grant. The state deadline of March 1, 2017 is quickly approaching! Ensure that your chapter receives the recognition it deserves by completing the CEP application.

Retrieving Scores from Regional and State Championships
In order to retrieve your students’ scores after the regional and state championships, please follow the following procedure:
- Register the student in the online registration with an accurate birth date.
- Two to three days after the close of the conference, visit http://www.skillsusa-register.org/rpts/EventScoreDetails.aspx
- Select the appropriate conference and year.
- Select the appropriate contest.
- Enter the contestant number (the badge number given at the conference).
- Enter the birth date you entered when registering the student.
- Click “View Scores.”

SLSC Opening Session
- The 52nd Annual SkillsUSA Tennessee Opening Ceremony will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017, at 6 p.m. EST, at McKenzie Arena on the campus of UT Chattanooga. Doors open at 5 p.m.
- Advisor Appreciation/National Conference Update and Delegate Sessions will be held at McKenzie Arena immediately following the opening session adjournment.
- Bus transportation from the Chattanooga Convention Center will be available. However, space is limited.
- Bus and automobile parking is available and highly encouraged at McKenzie Arena.
- Show your chapter and school spirit by participating in the parade of banners starting at 5:30 p.m. EST. There will be no food and drink allowed in McKenzie Arena.
- Just like at the National Leadership and Skills Conference, one piece of state and school pride "bling" is encouraged. Examples include:
- Flashing beads
- Flashing hats
- Flashing sunglasses
- Decorative school beads
- Official dress or business professional dress is required. Other requirements include:
- Do not cover up official dress.
- No baseball caps allowed.
- Nothing messy (silly string, etc.) allowed.
- No noise makers allowed.
- No balloons allowed.

Contestants will be assigned a time for an one-on-one interview between 12-4 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the State Leadership and Skills Conference after registration has closed. An email will be sent to the advisor listed in registration with the appointed interview time on March 10, 2017.
The American Spirit portfolio must be received by Samantha Childress no later than March 22, 2017. This is NOT a postmark date.

Contestants should bring their presentations on a memory card or flashdrive. If the contestant brings his/her own laptop, then the contestant must also bring the necessary hookups (cables, cords, etc.) to connect to the projector.

Voting Delegate Information for SLSC
Each local chapter shall be entitled to two voting delegates at the state conference. These delegates must be active members of the local chapter. Local chapters having membership of more than thirty active members prior to Feb. 1 shall be entitled to one additional delegate for each increment of 15 active members, or fractional part thereof, in excess of 30.
The delegates would therefore be computed by the following numbers of active members:

SkillsUSA Night at the Chattanooga Aquarium
- We are proud to announce that on Tuesday night, April 11, 2017, immediately following our banquet, all registered conference attendees will receive one FREE admission to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga! Conference T-Shirt and Badge are required for entry to aquarium.

Required Registration Documents
All registered attendees must complete the SkillsUSA conference registration online form and the SkillsUSA CTSO Release Form.
- You are no longer required to mail the CTSO Release Form with your registration. Advisors should have a completed copy for each attendee at the conference in the event of an emergency.
- The SkillsUSA Conference Registration Form (formerly the NLSC1 form) must be completed online and is NOT to be mailed to SkillsUSA Tennessee.
- Advisors please mail ONLY your chapter invoice with registration payment.

Curriculum Connection
New SkillsUSA Resource Helps Elementary School Students Explore STEM Careers
The new program, sponsored by State Farm Insurance Companies, is launching through SkillsUSA’s 4,000 chapters nationwide. Any SkillsUSA chapter can use the resource, which has been provided to chapter advisors as part of their paid professional membership. SkillsUSA has announced the release of a new resource that encourages high school students to mentor younger students on possible career paths. Its Jump Into STEM! program provides tools and activities for SkillsUSA members to help elementary-age participants take part in interactive career experiences. Whether a younger student wants to be an architect or an electrician, a social media specialist or a computer programmer, an industrial designer or an airline pilot, there is information on possible careers for the future. With this groundbreaking new program, SkillsUSA members are bridging the gap between elementary-age students and careers related to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
