KEC Leadership Club
The KEC Leadership Club has been busy! The members have been discussing needs and issues of the KEC students. On January 25, 2017, four members of the Leadership Club, Shaylin Lowry, Rachel Graham, Tyler Durancik, and Jon Ecker attended the county wide Youth Action Group (YAG) monthly meeting at Genoa-Kingston High School. Five school districts in DeKalb County, the Regional Office of Education and Kishwaukee Health Systems were in attendance. The students participated in an Ice Breaker before listening to a Bullying presentation by students from GKHS. The students then discussed the Illinois Youth Survey given every 2 years to schools in Illinois. The Leadership Group is going to focus on the needs of the students at KEC by creating their own surveys and presentations. The first presentation by the club will be on bullying. The Leadership Club is looking forward
to hearing from their fellow students at KEC on issues they
would like to see discussed.

KEC Science with Mrs. Chevalier
In Mrs. Chevalier's Science class, a student took a photo of strawberry DNA through the microscope. The dots are air bubbles the strands are the DNA.

Mrs. Chevalier's students need Chromebooks to engage in 21st century skills to become proficient users of technology and its application to a variety of learning experiences. If you would like to learn more, click below!

Take 5 with…Mr. Delano
Mr. Delano has been part of the KEC family for a very long time. He has been an instructor and tutor for many and a friend to all! While Mr. Delano has been around for many years, you might not know a whole lot about him. Read on to find out a bit more:
- Mr. Delano is not really a risk taker. He usually likes to play it safe. However, this past Valentine’s Day, he took a big chance. He didn’t buy his wife a present; instead, he brought her flowers and took her to dinner. Luckily, the risk he took worked out very well.
- The future is Mr. Delano’s favorite thing to talk about. Whether
it’s his students’ futures or his own, he likes to think about
what the future will bring!
- Mr. Delano is a pretty mellow guy, but he has no patience
for people who don’t try or don’t put forth effort.
- He is a planner. Sometimes Mr. Delano plans so much,
he forgets that he’s changed his plans…like the time he and
his wife went to Jamaica, and he didn’t remember that he
switched their resort reservations!
- Mr. Delano has a great life.
And, his family and friends are the best part of it!

Take 5 with…Mrs. Silver
Mrs. Silver has been part of the fabric of KEC for as long as many people can remember. She’s passionate about politics, government, history, and genealogy. Mrs. Silver infuses her classes with her enthusiasm. Check out what else gets her motor running:
- The next place Mrs. Silver plans to travel-in her mind and
in person-is Maine. She’s there every day in her mind; she’ll be
there in person this summer.
- When given the choice to pursue contentment or excitement, Mrs. Silver goes for excitement every time. She likes to live on the edge!
- Mrs. Silver describes her family with these 3 terms of endearment: nerdy, intelligent, and crazy!
- Mrs. Silver has many friends. Her newest friend is Allisyn Lyons. They have been friends for about 3 months.
Allisyn is her new bestie, for sure.
- Most people have a life motto. Mrs. Silver has one, too:
Are you on the bus or off the bus?
