Star Citizen Newsletter - 2.6.1 and Spectrum Are Live

February 17th, 2017

Greetings Citizen.

It was another exciting week for Star Citizen. Not only did Alpha 2.6.1 get published to Live, but we just released Spectrum, our new hub for chat, forums and community tools. While Alpha 2.6.1 contains a number of smaller improvements, most of the heavy lifting occurred under the hood, including the addition of multi-region servers, an important feature we hadn’t originally planned for this patch. We felt it was important to get this tech tested and integrated so players could have a similar experience whether logging in from Germany or Australia.

Meanwhile, I returned to Los Angeles this week and was joined by a number of devs from our Austin office, including Tony Zurovec. Having them here periodically allows for invaluable interaction between the dev teams, though I know it’s also a sacrifice, since their breakfast taco options are severely limited here compared to Austin.

Finally, work continues to progress on features for 3.0, Squadron 42 and beyond. We will continue to lay the necessary groundwork for those parts of the game with our next incremental patch 2.6.2. We released an updated production schedule that tracks these goals and, as always, will keep you updated on their progress.

Gemini S71

This week’s sneak peek is of the Gemini S71. It’s a well-balanced ballistic assault rifle that features an integrated sight. The S71 has found favor among certain security professionals for its sleek styling, though some argue the aesthetic upgrade isn’t worth the extra credits.
