New York State to recognize World Lymphedema Day and honor LE&RN New York State Chapter members

On March 2, 2017, the legislature of New York State will recognize the 2nd annual World Lymphedema Day, March 6, in the State of New York. Last year, the State became the very first legislative body in the country and in the world to pass a resolution establishing the day.

This year, two lymphedema and lymphatic disease advocates -- and LE&RN New York Chapter members -- will be honored at the Albany Statehouse with State resolutions. Nicole Faccio, pictured above, will be commended for her advocacy, including her fundraising efforts at the 2016 New York Walk to Fight Lymphedema & Lymphatic Diseases. Steve Guttenberg, LE&RN Honorary Board Member, will be recognized for his advocacy work on behalf of the lymphedema and lymphatic disease community.

On-air announcements will highlight Emma's efforts to increase awareness for World Lymphedema Day at her school. Tonawanda, NY, to declare March 6 World Lymphedema Day

Thanks to the efforts of the LE&RN New York State Chapter, led by Chapter Secretary Lisa McPartland (pictured at right), the Tonawanda Town Board in New York has announced that it will designate March 6 as World Lymphedema Day.

The Proclamation will be presented to Lisa at the Town Board meeting on Monday, February 27.

Lisa was published this week in All WNY News with an opinion piece on World Lymphedema Day.  "It's time for these diseases," Lisa writes, "to garner the attention they deserve so millions of people may find relief and so LE&RN may help to find a cure."

Orlando, Florida, issues proclamation recognizing March 6 as World Lymphedema Day

Thanks to the work of Florida Chapter co-Chair Annette Gluskin-Habin (pictured at left), the City of Orlando, Florida, has issued a proclamation declaring March 6 World Lymphedema Day in that city.

Congratulations, Florida! This is how we build awareness -- one community at a time.

Wisconsin Chapter wins passage of World Lymphedema Day resolution

The Wisconsin State Chapter of LE&RN submitted a World Lymphedema Day (WLD) resolution to Mayor Cathi Malke, who put it before the City Council. On February 7 the Council passed the resolution in a unanimous vote. March 6 will be officially recognized as World Lymphedema Day in the City of Peshtigo. The Eagle Herald will feature the passage of the resolution on the front page.

Alaina Archambault, daughter of Wisconsin Chapter co-Chair Rebecca Kobus, has advocated for WLD at her elementary school and awareness events will be held there for teachers, staff, and students.
