IM leaders meet with India ministry leaders

Converge International Ministries executive director Ivan Veldhuizen and new Asia international leader David J. traveled to India February 2-10 to strengthen our relationship and collaboration with longtime partners in ministry. Veldhuizen spoke to a crowd of more than 30,000 at the Boro Baptist Association annual convention February 5.

The pair then visited John Firth School in North Lakhimpur, where Converge is contributing to the construction of a new building. Fifty years ago six students from the Nyshi tribe in the Himalayan foothills attended school at John Firth. They became believers and returned to their home state, where they led their families to Christ. Today 89 percent of the 500,000 Nyshis are Christians.

David J. went on to Bangalore to visit a Converge global worker at an orphanage. Prior to Veldhuizen’s arrival in India, David J., Mike F. and Caribbean Initiative workers Joey and Carol Mimbs visited a dozen churches in Calcutta and Guwahati. They witnessed rapid church multiplication in progress. At one location they met four spiritual generations who became new believers within eight months and were trained to be church planters.
