Welcome to the February edition of the Healthcare and Wellbeing Network E-Bulletin. The aim of this e-bulletin is to share information and improve connections between third sector organisations that provide health and social care services for adults, older people and carers. It also aims to raise awareness and involvement in the Health and Social Care Partnership in Dundee.

Dundee Smart Care Convention 2017

The second Smart Convention was held at the Caird Hall on on 15th February, organised by Dundee Voluntary Action and Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership. There were some interesting presentations on Florence Health Monitoring, 5 Year Vision for Digital Healthcare and Internet of things as well as exhibitions showcasing the latest technology being used in health and social care.

Integrated Care Small Grants 

Integrated Care Small Grants Fund

The Small Grants Fund aims to build the capacity of communities to deliver services which ensure people are able to look after and improve their own health and wellbeing and live in good health for longer.  Funding is available to support the delivery of projects across all adult services.

Diaosu Exhibition

Diaosu received an Integrated Care Small Grant to design a creative craft box in co-production with sheltered housing residents.

The materials, group activity plans and instructions are provided in a box situated in common areas of complexes. The box will allow groups to personalise projects and choose activities to pursue.

An exhibition was recently held at Central Library to showcase the work of the residents.

McManus 150: The People’s Story

The People’s Story, is an ambitious Learning & Engagement Programme celebrating the 150th Anniversary of The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum. The programme is being delivered through a series of creative collaborations with learning partners, cultural agencies and community groups and networks across the city, and aims to explore the relationship between Dundee’s diverse communities, the museum and its collections.

What are the anticipated outcomes of the People’s Story?
·          Valuable, shared and meaningful learning experiences for museum staff and communities.
·          Creation of a framework that provides opportunity to deliver new ways of working and shape future models of good practice in partnership work, audience and learning development.
·          Visibility and understanding of the journeys, stories, learning and ideas of those involved in the project.

In the light of recent press coverage regarding historical abuse allegations, please remember that Volunteer Scotland Disclosure Services (VSDS) offers support and guidance for the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) process, recruitment of volunteers and paid staff, and in relation to the safeguarding of vulnerable groups.

Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland Social Security Survey

Some parts of the social security (‘welfare’ / ‘benefits’) system are being changed. This means the Scottish Government will be responsible for some social security benefits. Scottish Government has asked the Health and Social Care Alliance to conduct a survey to find out what people think about the assessment process for social security.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
2 Day Staff WRAP workshop

WRAP is a self management tool, developed in USA in 1997 by Mary Ellen Copeland. It enables people to participate fully in the management of their own mental health and well being.
This two day WRAP workshop is for anyone who wishes to experience first hand what it is like to develop their own WRAP in order to support their own wellbeing.
