On February 9th, the City of Ithaca was awarded the Run Smarter Award for improving customer service through automation during the Laserfiche Convention held in Long Beach, California. In the past two years, the City of Ithaca has scanned and uploaded up to 18,000 public records and requests and has created online processes so that citizens can now complete forms, submit permit applications and receive responses without ever having to visit City Hall. This process to enable public access to records and permitting forms has allowed the City of Ithaca to process more requests in less time, thereby serving more citizens. Many municipalities in the Tompkins County region, including the Village of Cayuga Heights, has joined in with this initiative towards innovation in the hopes to better serve its citizens.
Currently, the Village of Cayuga Heights is in the initial stages of digitizing all of its paper documents and streamlining services online with the goal to become a paperless workplace. Since the launch of the new village website in the beginning of 2016, we have created two new online forms to improve communication with residents, the Report a Problem form and Anonymous Tip Form. The Village is still underway to creating all its forms paperless. The Village has also enabled residents to access Board of Trustees, Zoning, and Planning Board meeting minutes and agendas online through the Laserfiche public portal. Residents can now search and locate past meeting minutes dating back to the early 1920's.
