We apologize for the radio silence, Folks! Its been a crazy busy time at NC Folk! As you might have seen, we've got our new website up and running, and we are touting our new artist services programming, and so much more! We are happy to be back with you, bringing the folk!

The Warrenton Echoes

FEATURED ARTIST

The Warrenton Echoes were founded In 1957 in Warren County, NC. In 2017 the Echoes remain the area's premier African American gospel quartet and still hold true to their creed: "to meet the need of the people." In 2017, NC Folk had the opportunity to dig deeper into the group's 60-year history and impact on their community through NC Folk's Inside NC.

"The Warrenton Echoes," is our first episode of the podcast series that is used to highlight the many different and equally important aspects of North Carolina and its folklife. To hear the podcast and listen to a few pieces by this group, visit our page today!

Exciting New Development at NC Folk

NC Folk has launched a new project to bring folk artists together, like the Warrenton Echoes, in our effort to create a Folk Artist Directory! Here, we highlight state-wide artisans with a short biography, their select skills, and their passions. Not only does this celebrate our commitment to our fellow North Carolinians, but this also provides a way for people across the state to get to know other artists! Black Eyed Peas and Hog Jowls

Back in 2011, the Littleton Lions Club hosted the annual New Year's Day Black-Eyed Peas and Hog Jowls Dinner where members of this Halifax County town come together with their homemade cooking to celebrate the year to come. Pictured above is a depiction of the many types of food you can find there: black-eyed peas and hog jowls (for which the festival is named), collard greens, and sweet tomato pudding. Fostering a community of hospitable patrons, the Littleton Lions Club attracts people from not only their county, but people as far as Roanoke Rapids and Warrenton. New NC Folk Intern

Meet our new intern! Miranda Spitzer, a sophomore at the UNC Chapel Hill is pursuing a degree in Folklore and Communications. Originally from Knoxville, TN, she now calls Chapel Hill home year-round and is constantly digging into the culture and history of her new home. Miranda found her passion for folklore through classes she's taken at UNC; she finds folklore to be extremely important to a place's identity, whether that be preserving history and folk pieces or discovering and highlighting new events and people in the state.

Miranda's favorite local restaurant is Mama Dip's, and her favorite North Carolinian artist is Rainbow Kitten Surprise. She's excited to work with NC Folk to broaden her understanding and experiences with the culture and folklife of North Carolina!
