Dear Families,

This week, winter weather has hit in full force and I know getting to school has been a challenge. I am so grateful to all of you for your efforts in getting your students here safely.  While the snow made for messy roads, it has also created a beautiful winter playground for us.  Even with our snow day, we had lots of activities this week and we have another busy week ahead of us.

Thank you to all of the families who have completed their registration paperwork.  It is so rewarding to see all the families who will be returning to our wonderful community and to see new families and students joining us.  Those who have completed their paperwork should have received an email from me.  At this time, enrollment is open to new families and we have already begun to fill up spots.  As of March 1st, spots in classes will no longer be guaranteed to current, un-registered families.  In our larger classes we have begun to develop waiting lists.  We will be reaching out to families on that list and letting them know we have space for them based on the completed packets as of March 1.  If you need more time to make a decision, or have already made one, please let me know.  We value all our current families, but we also want to reach out as soon as possible to those who are eager to join our community.  If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Next Friday is our annual Bowl-A-Thon.  This is a great event for our school to celebrate the fun part of who we are and the wonderful school we have.  We have a half day, which means that all students will be dismissed by noon.  The after school program will be open that day.  If you are interested in after school care, please sign up as soon as possible. If you would like to join us for some bowling and fun,  we welcome your presence.

The following week we are on break.  I am sure we are all looking forward to the opportunity to catch up on non-school activities and get a little rest.  The start of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on March 1st, which is during our vacation.  We will be having a Mass with the students when they return, but it is would be wonderful if families took the time to attend Mass at the true start of Lent.

I hope everyone enjoys the warm weather this weekend.

God Bless,

Eric Becker

SPORTS NEWS:

7th/8th Grade Girls
The 7/8 Girls had an exhausting day against St. Pius on Sunday. Only five girls dressed for the game, due to injuries and the weather, but the team played very well against a talented squad. The girls were relentless on the boards and in transition, but could not come up with the win. Anna led all scorers with six points, while Maelyn and Ashleigh each dropped in two points. Sierra and Allie played tough defense throughout the game.

6th Grade Boys
The 6th grade boys played Christ the King this past Sunday.  We played a great game!  The boys are dedicated to this team... we played as the snow came down fast!  The team is really enjoying each other and the coaches it is great to watch.  We took the win with a final score of 36 - 13.  Evan Havereluk had 9 points; Carter Blanchard had 7 points; Seth Richards and Ayden Johnson both had 5 points; Seneca Duroscher had 4 points; Logan Rivait, Asher Schonfield and Kellen Bourgeois all had 2 points.  We play at Essex Middle School this coming Sunday at 2, we would love for you all to come out and show your support for our SFX 6th grade boys!

8th Grade Boys
St. John Vianney traveled to Winooski to take on our beloved SFX 8th grade boys in a tale of two halves.  (Sounds like a recent Super Bowl.)  After taking a 16-0 lead in the first quarter, St. John battled back, but were still well behind at 23-9 at halftime.  Play slowed in the third quarter with both team struggling to hit the bottom of the net.  Late in the third, St. John hit stride, knocking down three pointers and battling their larger and seemingly older opponents.  St. John continued the momentum in the fourth, gaining entry to the paint, following their shots, and rebounding (all key to basketball success) battling back to within two points with just 23 seconds remaining in the game.  They missed a go-ahead three pointer and St. Francis’ Zac Roy  went to the foul line in the final seconds, nailing one of two.  That was enough for SFX to hold on to the win with a final of 35-32.  Will Burke had 5 points and teammates Zac Roy and JJ Stockbridge each added four.

The upcoming games are listed in the above calendar of events.  Come cheer the teams on!
