Please see this message from Jim Meade from UMass Police about how to become a part of the cadet program. Many of our students have been in the program and gotten a lot out of it. If you are interested in further information, please reply directly to him at jmeade@umass.edu

This year will mark the 14th year of our police cadet program. While we recruit from several area colleges, about half of our police cadets are UMass students.
Many of our cadets have gone on to full time employment in local, regional and state (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine) police departments.
Cadets must be student, enrolled in at least 6 credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better. The current average for all cadets, is 3.33
Cadets must attend a paid, 10 day live-in academy in August and commit to working 2 nights every weekend that the UMass residence halls are occupied.
Cadets are paid $14.50/hour. All uniforms are provided at no cost except footwear.
In addition to academy instruction, each Thursday has a continuing education topic.
Once hired, cadets are eligible until they’re no longer a student (including graduate work)
