February 28, 2017: Sorting Through Perspectives
View this email in your browser
Dear <<First Name>>,

“And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others were mocking and saying, “They are full of sweet wine.”” Acts 2:12, 13, NAS95.

As God is doing a work in our lives or in the lives of those around us, we often try to interpret them from our own perspective. On the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured out, only a few understood what God was doing. Those without the "intimate" understanding were left to sorting out what was happening through their own perspective.

We often really do not know what the Lord is doing in our lives or others we know. Everyone will have an opinion. Some will cite natural reasons, some will cite spiritual reasons, and some will cite emotional perspectives. In this story the crowd was quite confused. There was "amazement," "great perplexity, and even mocking. They were sure that this phenomena was happening because the participants were drunk! That was an interesting conclusion for sure.

We must be careful not to quickly judge a situation either in our own life or especially in the lives of others as to what is going on behind the scenes. Our bias and ignorance of the higher ways of God can be as ridiculous as these responses. Instead, we can do these things:

1) Trust that our Lord is doing some wonderful things in and through the circumstance.

2) Know that you don't need to have a perspective and solve all the mysteries of the world. Simply bless and pray.

3) Slowly come to conclusions. The faster you think, the further from the truth you may be.

Our Lord is always doing God to us and others at all times. Even darkness is light to Him. Let's spend less time sorting through our perspectives and more time enjoying the mystery of it all.

Have a wonderful day.

Tuesday

Love,

Pastor Stuart
