2016/17 Santander Postgraduate Mobility Funding
Applications close on Thursday 9th March 2017.

In 1996 Emilio Botín, Chairman of Santander, decided that the bank should be useful to the communities in which it operates. With the conviction that the University is a vital cornerstone of development and progress, the division began to grow and so did its global outreach; eventually expanding into more than 20 countries, including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Portugal and the UK. So far, Santander Universities has donated over €1 billion in the shape of scholarships, mobility grants, support for special projects and academic and non-academic awards.
  • Open to all postgraduate research students
  • Award Amount: Up to £500 per student

Eligibility Criteria

Awards are available to postgraduate research students who seek to realise an innovative research project that complements their subject of study and the interests of their respective School or College. Applications should be for projects that have not yet taken place and full costing should be provided as a part of the application. Whilst £500 is the highest level of award available, not all awards will be at this level and applicants are asked to think carefully about the total cost of the project, and where additional funds may be secured if required.

Priority will be given to students who intend to work alongside a Santander Universities Network member and where demonstrable links are made to research and/or academics at Lincoln with a focus on or in the Santander network areas.

Applications

If you would like an application form please use the buttons below, email us or visit the Graduate School website, all completed forms must be returned to the Graduate School.

Applications close on Thursday 9th March 2017.

British Federation of Women Graduates Scholarships 2017

BFWG (British Federation of Women Graduates) founded in 1907

BFWG awards scholarships annually to women studying for doctorates at British universities. Whilst described as Scholarships, these awards are in effect prizes for outstanding academic excellence as determined from information given on application forms, in referee reports and, for shortlisted candidates, at interview.  Awards are given out in early autumn (October/November) of the relevant year and awards usually range between £2,500 and £6,000.

The 2017 BFWG scholarships competition is now open.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 24th March 2017

Please go to www.bfwg.org.uk and look under Scholarships to find out details of the application process and of eligibility.  The competition is open to women doctoral students (PhD, DPhil or equivalent) at British universities (not Northern Ireland) who began full time doctoral studies between September 1st 2014 and October 31st 2015 (or the part time equivalent) are eligible to apply and who will not be submitting their thesis before the end of February 2018.

In 2012 we celebrated one hundred years since BFWG (originally the British Federation of University Women) first gave an award to a woman postgraduate to support her research. Now in our second century of award-giving, we look forward each year to the variety and quality of the applications we receive.

BFWG Research Presentations Day 2017

Saturday June 10th 2017

BFWG HQ,
4 Mandeville Courtyard,
142 Battersea Park Road,
London SW11 4NB

All welcome,

BFWG holds a Research Presentations Day each year at which women postgraduate students are invited to give short presentations of their research work to a general audience.  A prize of £100 is offered for the presentation judged ‘best’ in terms of quality of presentation and ability to communicate the subject to an educated but general audience.  Those interested in making a presentation should go to www.bfwg.org.uk to download an abstract submission form.  Abstracts should be submitted to rpd@bfwg.org.uk.

Closing date for abstracts is Friday April 28th 2017

It may be necessary to make a selection from abstracts submitted if there are too many entries for the time available.  Please note: BFWG is not able to pay travel or other expenses.

All undergraduates, postgraduates, members of BFWG and others who are interested will be very welcome to attend the RPD even if they do not wish to submit a paper.  There is no charge for bona fide students, whether or not they are presenting a paper, but there is a charge of £10 on the door for others.  (A sandwich lunch is provided).  The Research Presentations Day is usually a good opportunity to meet other postgraduate women students and to look objectively at the presentation styles of others.  It can be a useful learning experience and an opportunity for networking.

If you wish to attend the day please contact: Dr Elizabeth Poskitt: rpd@bfwg.org.uk if possible before June 3rd 2017.

 Leadership & Teamworking Workshop

Friday 19th May 2017
09:30am - 12:30pm
Minerva Building
Room MB3202

Don't miss our half day workshop designed specifically for postgraduates who are interested in further developing their skill set in order to enhance their employment prospects beyond graduation. When hiring new team members, the professional environment is now increasingly choosing individuals with transferable skills such as leadership, team working, strong communication, negotiation and cooperative working. How an individual perceives their own working style, what their preferences are and how they interact with and manage others is a key part of this, and researchers can benefit from exploring their own personal method of working.

Understanding our Unconscious Bias with Laurence Harvey

The session is extremely thought provoking and highly engaging. It is facilitated by Laurence Harvey who has over 25 years of experience in training and advising senior level executives in both the public and private sector, on this and many other organisational behaviour issues. Laurence’s experience and expertise can offer something ‘gritty’ and ‘commercially real’ for our students, providing an invaluable opportunity to gain personal insight and an edge that is as applicable to their study as is to their future employment in a global market where being ‘savvy’ about diversity and its impact is an asset.

Laurence has delivered thought provoking, exciting and enlightening workshops to over 3,000 Senior People in the last 18 months – and we feel this is a unique offering to our Lincoln students, adding extra value to enrich their time and  personal development with us that they won’t receive (presently) at any other institution.
