My March update is about Pruning
When to Prune?
It's easy to be intimidated by your shrubs, especially if you've moved into a garden where there are a lot of mature shrubs. Many people either leave the shrubs to grow and take over the garden or hack them back indiscriminately and are left with no flowers or dead plants! If you'd like some advice on general pruning techniques have a look at my top tips. In March you should be tackling any Hydrangeas and Buddlejas, so sharpen your secateurs and have a go.
Hands-on Pruning Practice
If you'd like to learn pruning techniques and practice on someone else's shrubs first - come along to my workshop at Brinscall Hall on Saturday 11th March.
Plant Fair visits
With spring in the air it's tempting to start thinking about developing your garden and trying out some new plants. To find more unusual plants, lovingly grown by small nurseries, plan to take some time out to visit one of the specialist plant fairs this Spring -
Plant Hunter Fairs - at Ness Gardens in March and Hoghton Tower in April
Flower Power Fairs - at Holker Hall in April
Arley Hall Spring Plant Fair - in April
