Debbie Peter has been with DCJESD for the past four-years, but has been working in education for nearly three decades. Debbie has a multiple subject teacher credential and authorizations to work with students with severe disabilities as well as a Resource Specialist. Early in her career, Debbie taught K-12 special education classes at independent international schools. During this time Debbie was the affiliate Director of Destination Imagination for the country of Brazil, and presented at numerous international educational conferences throughout Latin and South America. At Olive Grove Elementary School, Debbie is the site representative of the Accessible Curriculum for All district cohort, and a foundational member of the Positive Behavior Intervention & Support program. Debbie consistently demonstrates instructional leadership by spearheading new and innovative teaching methods. In fact, Debbie was the first elementary special education teacher to co-teach with general education staff, providing special education support during core instruction. Debbie truly shines when it comes to leading small group lessons with her students. Students who are under Debbie's instruction may begin the year with hesitancy, but by the end they speak with pride, walk with confidence, and view life with brighter eyes.
