"Building A Better School Community...TOGETHER!"
Weekly Recap 2/27- 3/3
SENIORS ONE WIN SHORT OF A SWEEP
IN 108TH ORATORICAL

Oratorical, the oldest tradition in Glendale High School's history, took place on Friday, March 3rd in the John Wayne Performing Arts Center. This year, the seniors came away with first place honors in three out of four categories.

Oratorical, which started in 1909 during the time forensics (the art or study of formal debate) was popular, is a grade level competition in which students, who are given a theme or prompt, compete in four categories: an original speech; a tableau carrying out the theme of the speech; the discipline of the Class while participating; and class spirit which includes two cheers and the song, "Glendale Boys."

This year's prompt was very topical and thought-provoking:

"In the wake of the 2016 election, the United states has become a union divided along partisan lines of progressivism and conservatism. Now that foreign countries have witnessed this contentious election, the international view of the United States has been altered.  Based on these circumstances, what new role does the United States play in the global community and what can young people do to affect this role in the years to come?"

Senior Galo Lopez presented the speech "Tree of Unity" followed by the juniors, whose speaker Eliza Petrosyan presented "A Golden Door Shut."  Silva Shoyan spoke about "Post-election, Pre-Change" on behalf of the freshman class, followed by Sabrina Andal who presented for the sophomores. As always, the speeches and tableaus were simply spectacular.  The judges had a hard time making their decisions!

After each class thanked their advisors and speech-writers, the winners were announced:

Discipline: Seniors
Speech:  Seniors
Tableau: Sophomores
Spirit: Seniors

Congratulations to the winners and to all the students who participated in this long-standing tradition Glendale High School.  Until next year!

GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM MAKES HISTORY

The GHS girls basketball team fought hard against Leuzinger High in the semi-finals of the CIF Southern Section Division II-A playoffs on Saturday, February 25th, but came away with a loss to end their CIF playoff run.
