5th emes international research conference 2015

Over 400 abstracts received from over 54 countries:
Register now to participate!

After closing of the abstract submission period for the upcoming EMES international conference, we were nicely surprised to receive more than 400 abstracts for paper, panel and poster sessions. A closer look at the submitting authors showed that there are over 100 PhDs among them, something that feels quite positively after the open commitment of EMES to this community.

In the opinion of one of the reviewers “it’s very good to anticipate so many participants but also the quality seems to be very high. As I saw from my abstracts they are from a very broad range of themes and really interesting. Also we can see that the field is maturing theoretically. And this is very good. It is going to be a brilliant conference.

The registration period for this conference, entitled "Social enterprise for sustainable societies", opened on 15 February. The early-bird rate is available until 27 March and presenting author registration ends on 17 April. The conference schedule is already available on the conference webpage, together with information on available accommodation and how to get to the conference venue.

The day before the conference, we will host a pre-conference Transdisciplinary Forum aimed at researchers and practitioners. Under the title “Social enterprise for sustainable societies. From research to practice and back” different type of sessions will be featured, including discussion on ongoing projects on social finance, elderly care, REScoops and community energy, etc. and possible dialogue platforms to be supported between research and practice. There will also be meetings of the Forum on Education and Training on SE (FETSE) and the EMES PhD Network.

EMES is organizing this event in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Research Center on Work, State and Society (CIRTES, Université catholique de Louvain) and the Social Enterprise Belgian Interuniversity Attraction Pole (IAP).

Meet the members of the #6EMESconf scientific committee

The second featured participant of our "#6EMESmeetscicom" campaign is Nicole Göler von Ravensburg, tenured Professor of Socio-economics at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. Nicole joined EMES in 2013 and was elected to the Board as an individual member. She also cooperates in the ICSEM project as part of the German team. Her postdoc-research centered mainly on coop start-ups, social and educational coops in Germany, while her graduate research focused on coops in developing countries and in Europe.

The EMES conference is a hub of intelligent thought on social entrepreneuring and the social economy! I have accepted to join the Scientific Committee because I can learn a great deal about other disciplinary approaches, perspectives, research methods and, of course, results. I believe this conference is one of the best in regard to the mix of views. But above all, I enjoy the atmosphere – both, ambitious in thinking and modest in appearance, confident in academic achievement and sufficiently quizzical towards the topic.

Thank you, Nicole and we look forward to seeing you at the #6EMESconf!
