ALONG THE JOURNEY

BY MARK WILBANKS
Something's Missing

While dining out recently, we visited a really good restaurant known for certain specialties. When our orders arrived, several of us had selected the same dishes. After one bite, it was obvious – something was missing. A key ingredient of one of their specialties had been left out.

Good cooks are known for combining the right ingredients. Many of them don’t need a cookbook, they just know what needs to be added. Whether cake or casserole, one bite usually tells the tale.

In a church family, the recipe calls for all the ingredients. Paul wrote to the Romans: “We are all part of His one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others. God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well” (Romans 12:5,6).

Charles Swindoll, in his book Hand Me Another Brick, offered this: “Your gifts make you valuable, although not necessarily famous. The Lord remembers every labor done in love” (Hebrews 6:10). Many of the ingredients are not obvious, until they are missing.

There are many places where our labor can make the difference. The Impact Teams are busy addressing the five key issues we have identified – Generational Poverty, Seniors, Public Servants, Human Trafficking, and Refugees. Leaders are needed in ministries to our children and youth. The Greeting Ministry allows us to be on the front lines when guests arrive. Are you interested in tutoring? Check out our Day School and After School programs. Do you have technical skills? We are looking for additional volunteers for worship support. Would you be interested in hosting/leading a small group? Connecting people happens best in small communities. Do you have a gift and passion for intercession? Our Prayer Ministry could use more prayer warriors. The list goes on and on.

There is joy in serving. Each of us can help our church grow healthier by adding the special ingredient God has given us!

IMPACT: Refugees Spotlight
The war in Syria has brought us the biggest humanitarian crisis of our time. 11 million Syrians are on the run, with 13.5 million still in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. Since the beginning of the war, half of Syria's population has been killed or forced to flee their homes. Some of these families have become our neighbors, finding themselves in the refugee community of Clarkston, Georgia. Learn more about our IMPACT Groups here: Wieuca.org/IMPACT
“Questions you want to ask God” with Mark Wilbanks is meeting again through March 19 in the Heritage Room on Sunday mornings. New groups start March 26. More details to come.
