GLOMUS Camp 2017

A month ago we saw again the best manifestation of the GLOMUS spirit: GLOMUS Camp 2017 that took place at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte in Natal with 140 participants from 23 countries spending 10 days in a whirlwind of intercultural workshops, regional presentations, small and big group sessions, jams, concerts, excursions...

We would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all participants and especially the amazing Fabio Soren Presgrave and everyone in his team who made the event unforgettable! Muito obrigado de todos!

MusikSak unites children in Aarhus

The influence of Natal initiatives reaches beyond GLOMUS Camp 2017! After returning from their exchange semester in Natal in 2015, the two cellists Rebecca and Gabriella de Carvalho e Silva Fuglsig decided to start a string ochestra project at a local scool. Inspired by their voluntary work in different social projects in Natal as well as by the Venezuelan project El Sistema, they founded MusikSak in February 2015. Today MusikSak consists of more than 50 kids and 8 teachers divided in two orchestras, and they have been participating in various concerts as well as in the international festival "Side by Side" in Gothenburg.

The whole idea behind MusikSak is to give kids, who otherwise would never search for it, the chance to play classical music together. All participation - in trips as well as in the lessons - is free of charge and they play together 5 hours a week. This way the kids get the chance to immerse themselves in something beautliful, and to develop human values such as disciplin, colaboration, respect and tolerance, despite great differences in ages, and cultural and religious backgrounds.

artArctica festival - inspired by GLOMUS Camp

In the beginning of February, artArctica festival was organised for the second time in Vapaan Taiteen Tila. artArctica is a group of artists with a passion for the Arctic, and a vision to inspire understanding across cultures and raise awareness about the environment.

The festival brought together artists and researchers from around the world, from countries in the Arctic as well as people inspired by the Arctic. This year's festival also included an international and multi-arts residency for ten artists, who presented the new work at the festival.

Did you know that there's a considerable GLOMAS/GLOMUS presence in the festival? One of the co-organisers is GLOMAS graduate Laonikos Psimikakis who was motivated by his experience in GLOMUS Camp 2015 to organise artistic events which form bridges across cultures and engage with a larger social and environmental context. Another graduate Krishna Nagaraja created new work with Norwegian visual artist Tone Bjordam; a trio including GLOMAS students Hildá Länsman and Viivi Maria Saarenkylä presented "Arctic Stories", and Zane Pērkone performed in a duo singing about the Northern Wind.
