Citizen Advocacy Ottawa's Fetal Alcohol Resource Program is proud to invite you to attend the 1st Annual FASD Eastern Ontario Symposium, this year focusing on Invisible Disabilities.

The Symposium Committee members, from in and around Ottawa, share a passion for supporting individuals with invisible disabilities, including, but not limited to, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. We have joined together to help educate, connect and encourage individuals with invisible disabilities and those who support them and the unique challenges they experience. We know that this two-day event will be relevant and interesting to professionals and caregivers alike.

We are excited to present our keynote speaker, Kim Barthel, a leading expert in sensory processing, trauma, attachment and neuroscience. Her expertise will help us recognize ways we can use the sensory system to help regulate the easily dysregulated brain. In addition, we have invited a number of local experts to present on a wide range of topics including: FASD basics, public policy, strategies that help in the school system and lifetime supports.

Did you know that we also provide free specialized child care on Saturday to help families attend? Spaces are limited so register early.

We are pleased to welcome back CTV as the exclusive Media Sponsor, in addition Graham Richardson will be hosting the 23rd Annual Evening in the Maritimes! Curious about our event Emcee? Read on for some fun facts or click here.

Graham Richardson is Chief News Anchor for CTV News at 6:00 p.m. and afternoon news anchor on Newstalk 580 CFRA.

Graham Richardson joined CTV Ottawa in January, 2010, after nearly four years covering Parliament Hill for CTV National News.

Since joining CTV Ottawa, Richardson anchored the newscast from the scene of the tragic Ottawa city bus - VIA train crash that killed six people in the autumn of 2013; he led coverage from the floor of the Ontario Liberal Leadership Convention in January 2013; and he anchored CTV Ottawa’s 2013 Bell Let’s Talk Day regional town hall. Richardson remains a familiar face to national viewers, serving as substitute anchor on CTV National News, and as part of Bell Media’s special team dedicated to Royal Wedding coverage in 2011.

During his time on Parliament Hill, Richardson travelled the world covering Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He filed reports from Kandahar Afghanistan, G-8 meetings in Germany and Japan, a critical NATO summit in Romania, official visits to India, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Poland and the United Nations in New York.

Richardson also travelled extensively with the Conservative and Liberal campaigns in the 2008 Federal Election.

Before his assignment on Parliament Hill, Richardson was CTV's Los Angeles Bureau Chief, covering the Michael Jackson trial, Hurricane Katrina, space shuttle landings, the Mexican election, and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino Italy.

Named one of Ottawa’s Top 25 in the Capital 2013 by Ottawa Life Magazine in 2013, Richardson brings a depth of national and international experience to the anchor chair at CTV Ottawa, and also has a very strong sense of the capital and the larger broadcast region. A graduate of Queen's University in Kingston, Richardson has spent many summers along the shores of Bob's Lake near Westport.

Don’t forget - The Early Bird Deadline ends March 1st, get your tickets here and be entered for a chance win a 1 night stay in a junior suite at the Hilton Lac-Lemay.

Faces of Citizen Advocacy

Travis Reside is 15 years old. He has ASD, OCD, ODD, ADHD, severe language learning disability and generalized anxiety. He is matched with Paul Gould who is 20 years old. The pair are in contact each week and get together to have fun. They go out for walks, explore Petrie Island, play catch and go-karting.

Paul loves his role as a big brother and sees it as a way of paying forward the support he received as a youth. Travis’ mom says of their friendship “The best part is that … they could be sitting on a log chatting and Travis would be just as happy and excited!”
