ELLENSBURG UMC

March 2, 2017
CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER CLASS IS CANCELLED TONIGHT!
(PASTOR JEN IS SICK)
COME JOIN US TOMORROW NIGHT!!
Remember to go and watch the musical comedy "The Drowsy Chaperone" presented by the Ellensburg High School! Our very own Ava Stuart is in the play!
The last three shows are Thursday through Saturday (March 2-4) at 7:00 p.m. at CWU Hertz Hall Auditorium, 400 E. Wildcat Way, Ellensburg.
Lent is a time of reminding ourselves who we are called to be in this world.
Our Lenten series is inspired by Amos, a prophet whose message is that God calls us to let “justice roll down like waters.”
Amos says, “I hate, I reject your festivals; I don’t enjoy your joyous assemblies… Take away the noise of your songs. I won’t listen to the melody of your harps. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

Does this mean that we are to give up our worship? That God does not want our worship? No… but worship without justice is not acceptable.

Through powerful music and the remembrance of our rituals of baptism (the origins of Lent), this season will offer us reflection and renewed inspiration to let our voices be tuned to the heart of the Gospel–proclaiming God’s love for all people.

As we move into this powerful season we invite you to consider what you might let go of, or conversely, take on, that will allow you to feel the love of God more vividly in your own life.  All so that on Easter Sunday you will be able to celebrate the gift of life with renewed hope and a sense of justice and love for all.
