Joan Warner, Vice-President and Chair of Asia Pacific Committee, WorldDAB

Welcome to the first WorldDAB Asia Pacific newsletter of 2017.
This year looks set to be a pivotal one for many decision makers in the region, with WorldDAB ramping up its presence in the region to support the next wave of trials and developments.

Hundreds of DAB+ radios are now available from US $16, the majority of automotive brands offer DAB+ in the car and last year saw the launch of the world’s first DAB+ smartphone, the LG Stylus 2. Interest in DAB+ continues to grow following the world’s first digital radio switchover from FM to DAB+ in Norway in January.

There are now DAB+ services on-air in over 36 countries, including several in Asia Pacific. Australia leads the way with 3.6 million listeners across the five metropolitan capital cities and the regional rollout of DAB+ is under way. In addition to full time DAB+ services in Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and DMB services in South Korea, there are DAB+ trials on-air in New Zealand and Malaysia, with further DAB+ trials planned in 2017 for Myanmar and Thailand.

This year WorldDAB will be attending several shows and conferences across Asia Pacific, starting with ABU DBS in just a few weeks. Anyone interested in the future of radio can get in touch to book an appointment.

We hope that you find this newsletter useful and, for more information about DAB+ or setting up a trial, please contact the WorldDAB Project Office
