Manager Birralee Blokes
What do you do outside of Birralee?
I work for the Queensland Ambulance Service and I cook for a hobby, including competing in Brisbane's EKKA.
What do you enjoy about volunteering with Birralee? I like how everyone has a smile and a willingness to give a helping hand where ever it is needed. I also love the music we make.
Are you musical? I don't have any musical ability, however I did perform with Birralee Recycled last year - It was a total buzz.

Kerry Pickering, 26, Resonance of Birralee
Occupational Therapist
When did you join Voices of Birralee and why? I joined three years ago because I love to sing! I was always involved in instrumental music and choir throughout high school but put it on hold while I was at uni. Once I'd finished uni I wanted to be making music again (singing by myself in the shower doesn't count!) and my violin skills were so rusty I wouldn't have been accepted into any orchestra! Luckily I could still read music and I'd never put away my voice (just ask my husband!!) so I auditioned for Resonance of Birralee, which I knew about through my best friend Lucy!
What are your favourite songs in Birralee's repertoire?
I enjoy a range of pieces. There's something so special about singing an absolute classical masterpiece alongside an orchestra, and also something so fun about singing contemporary (or pop!!) songs too. The high standard of staff is just incredible. We are so lucky to be conducted by someone as talented as Paul, and to be accompanied by a virtuoso such as Brendan!!
Why do you sing and where do you plan on taking your music?
I sing because I am happy, sad, frustrated, excited, reflective, confident, scared..... all number of emotions can be expressed in song. I love sharing that with other singers and with the audience. I've already enjoyed some incredible opportunities such as singing in France for Anzac Day, with many more to look forward to!

BIRRALEE COMMUNITY NOTICEBOARD!
We've re-launched our Facebook community group allowing our Birralee Members, and those closely connected with our organisation, to buy, swap or sell items that are related to our music interests.
This is a great platform to connect as a community and to sell any unneeded uniforms, or instruments, and lots more. Before posting in the group, please review the terms of use, and view the group here.

NEED A NEW BANK ACCOUNT FOR 2017?
Voices of Birralee has been banking with Bank of Queensland for a number of years and because of this great relationship, our local branch would like to invite Birralee members looking for a new fee free everyday account to get in touch. For every 10 accounts opened, the branch will donate $100 to our Western Front Anzac Centenary Choir touring project!
The account includes a free Visa Debit Card with limited overseas fees attached. Great for those touring next year and beyond to get their travel funds sorted.
