The Siamsa School of Irish Music is delighted to welcome back to Montréal accordionist Jackie Daly and fiddler Matt Cranitch. In the afternoon on Saturday March 18 they will conduct a special participatory presentation/workshop.

Music from the South-West of Ireland.
In this illustrated presentation, Jackie and Matt talk about their formative musical influences with particular reference to the Sliabh Luachra tradition, and also teach some tunes, particularly from its rich repertoire of slides and polkas.
This workshop is not instrument-specific, and so participants who play any of the traditional melody instruments are welcome to attend. Also, anyone else who wishes to sit and listen is equally very welcome.

About Jackie and Matt
Jackie Daly & Matt Cranitch are bearers of the vigorous tradition of the region of southwest Ireland known as Sliabh Luachra (“the rushy mountain”).
Matt Cranitch has recorded with the seminal 1970s ensemble, Na Filí, with bands Any Old Time and Sliabh Notes, and as a soloist. Known for his peerless interpretation of slow airs, he is also the author of the standard Irish fiddle tutor, and in demand as an authoritative lecturer on Irish traditional music.
Jackie Daly changed the course of Irish music by raising the accordion to the ranks of concert-stage instruments. His precise, dynamic playing has been a vital part of the sound of De Dannan, Buttons & Bows, Patrick Street and other bands. A living legend !

L’école de musique irlandaise Siamsa est heureuse d’annoncer le retour à Montréal de deux grand musiciens, l’accordéoniste Jackie Daly et le violoneux Matt Cranitch. Samedi, le 18 mars ils animeront un atelier-présentation participatif en après-midi.

Au cours de cette présentation participative, avec images à l’appui, Jackie et Matt parleront de leurs influences musicales, surtout en référence à la tradition de Sliabh Luachra. Ils enseigneront également quelques morceaux, en puisant dans ce vaste répertoire de slides et de polkas.
L’atelier n’est pas limité aux seuls violoneux et accordéonistes :
les participants qui jouent de n’importe quel instrument traditionnel seront les bienvenus – tout comme ceux qui aimeraient simplement écouter.

Jackie Daly & Matt Cranitch sont porteurs de la tradition vigoureuse de la région sud-ouest de l’Irlande,Sliabh Luachra(« la montagne des roseaux »).
Matt Cranitch a endisqué avec l’ensemble-phare des années 1970, Na Filí, avec les groupes Any Old Time et Sliabh Notes, et comme soliste. Réputé pour son interprétation sans pareille des airs lents, il est également l’auteur de la méthode standard du violon irlandais.
