Innovative plastic sorting and reprocessing solution
On January 30th 2017, CLEAN and Copenhagen Municipality published the tender: Innovative plastic sorting and reprocessing solution.
The tender aims to develop an innovative plastic sorting and reprocessing plant. Important requirements for this plant is that it should improve on the current standards so that recycled plastic can be recycled at a price, quality and in a quantity that is actually attractive to companies that use recycled plastic in their production.
CLEAN has gathered 16 contracting authorities consisting of waste companies, municipalities and The Capital Region of Denmark. The project is now in the prequalification face, the companies create consortia with a variety of competencies in order to construct a best of art plant for separation and recycling of plastics. The deadline for application for prequalification is April 18th 2017.
  • The Information Meeting will take place at Copenhagen S and the invitation can be found here.

Clean Tech Delta
Clean Tech Delta is looking for port innovators
As a cluster established in the region of the largest and most impactful port of Europe, Clean Tech Delta is always seeking for port innovators. Regularly, Clean Tech Delta organizes pitch events with decision makers from the port. Potentially, they can transform the event into a Meet-the-buyer event (see news article Scale-up above), so that travel costs can be reimbursed. If you have members or start-ups/SMEs in your network that are interested in this, please contact:
Tara van de Lagemaat.
Écotech Québec
"STEAL THE IDEA" - 2 ideas launched by Ecotech Quebec that could be "stolen" by ICN partners around the world:
  • Ecotech Challenge on Women’s Day : a business case competition, organized by Ecotech Quebec with the Women in Business Association in McGill business school. Students from McGill are invited to work on a real business case of a clean tech company (in this case a company held by a woman CEO) and a panel with female faces of the Quebec cleantech sector will be held during the award ceremony.
  • Match-making event with the Tourism industry: the United Nations declared 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. Ecotech Quebec will take this opportunity to organize a match-making event on green Infrastructure, between the Quebec tourism industry and local clean tech entrepreneurs.
Écotech Québec needs your insights: Would you have, in your cluster, specific programs to help companies reach faster commercialization through demonstration projects? Please contact Normand Gadoury, ngadoury@ecotechquebec.com. Écotech Québec is fostering a new initiative called Propulsion aiming to help Quebec-based cleantech companies reach commercialization more rapidly and efficiently. Propulsion will propose strategic coaching, verification standards, help with financing, include potential buyers expectations and efficient promotion. Public, parapublic and municipal instances will be targeted to host the demonstration projects. The initiative will be in a pilot phase for 2017.
ATTEND: GLOBE Capital
, Toronto, April 4-5, where business and policy decision-makers create solutions for accelerating the investment in infrastructure that is needed to transition to a sustainable world. For more information check here.
GreenCape
NHE Launch
New Horizons Energy, a waste-to-energy business focused on revolutionising South Africa’s approach to waste management and the large-scale production of renewable energy, is running a new R400 million waste-to-energy conversion plant in the latest green economy development project in Cape Town. The project, a collaboration between Waste Smart and Clean Energy Africa, is aimed at trying to reduce the amount of waste going to the city’s landfills whilst simultaneously creating jobs. The plant uses 500 tonnes of organic household, municipal, and industrial waste per day, in an anaerobic digestive process, to produce methane, food-grade carbon dioxide, and organic fertilizer. GreenCape played a key role in providing technical support and will work with other municipalities in the province in an attempt to roll out similar projects. More info

Float Glass Partnership
Simple Active Tactics, a manufacturer and processor of industrial minerals, metals and granular abrasives has recently partnered with four glass producing companies with the help from GreenCape’s WISP team. The company is focussing on sourcing waste float glass from partners and is currently using in the region of 60 tonnes of off-cut and damaged float glass a month. The glass undergoes a crushing and sifting process and is then used in a variety of means providing Simple Active Tactics with a new revenue stream.

Intelligent recycling plant for Malaysia
ANDRITZ MeWa supplies the first automatic recycling plant for refrigerators and electronic scrap to Penang, Malaysia. Starting in the middle of 2017, around 300,000 refrigerators and up to 60,000 tonnes of e-scrap, such as washing machines, household appliances and computers, will be processed there annually. The central element is the QZ 2000 cross-flow shredder, which separates the individual fractions and separates out batteries and capacitors without pollutants. In addition, the encapsulated system ensures that released gases, such as CFCs and pentane, are extracted and disposed of in an environmentally sound manner when processing refrigeration and air-conditioning units. Scale-up
The EU project "Scale-up" facilitates matching and leads between SMEs, start-ups and "hungry" corporates, by organizing "Meet the Buyer events". As a result, the "purchase needs" of the corporates become clear, so that the products and service of the SMEs can be customized for every corporate. The ultimate aim are procurements of innovations. The demand of the corporates for the 2 upcoming events are as followed:
29 march - Mechelen: Companies who have new biodegradable polymers; Companies who have innovative and sustainable ways of generating and storing power.

6 April - Rotterdam: Companies that have new innovative sensor technologies (in: maritime, offshore, flow management and wind); Companies with experience in the processing of sensor data and the ICT structures; A sustainable replacement for hydraulic oil or ways for more efficient usage.

For an elaboration on these purchase needs or if you are interested in joining, please contact Clean Tech Delta. What's more, 50% of your travel costs of start-ups and SMEs can be reimbursed (only start-ups and SMEs from the North Sea region can participate in the travel voucher scheme: United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway). That said, this is a perfect opportunity for your start-ups or middle-large companies to meet buyers abroad!
