Ash Wednesday

On Ash Wednesday, March 1st, there will be a light soup/salad supper at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall followed by a short service with imposition of ashes at 6:30 pm also in the Fellowship Hall. We are called to observe the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert fasting and praying by doing the same, eating simply to clear our minds to hear God’s voice as we pray. Our observance of Lent can be guided by attending the study group on the Sundays in Lent (March 5th to April 9th). The group meets at 9:15 am to 10 am (see separate article). Childcare will be available.

M and M's

We will be visiting the WildFin, American Grille in Issaquah. Thursday March 2nd at 11:30A. Their menu is varied they have salads galore, fish and chips, flat iron steaks, pastas and flat breads, and good deserts. All we need for our fellowship get together. We do have the upper room reserved which is at the right side of the restaurant and up the ramp. We have eaten there before and enjoyed it. Please reserve with Rose Hart for seating in order that the restaurant can cater to our needs on table service. See you there. The address is: 835 N.W Gilman Blvd, Issaquah.  May the Lord always be present at our table. Rose Hart, Coordinator
M & M's.

Lenten Study Group

There will be a study group during the Sundays in Lent, led by Pastor Steve. The group will meet Sunday mornings at 9:15 am to 10 am from March 5th to April 9th. There are plenty of study books, both regular and large print. The study is called “Near the Cross, a Lenten Journey of Prayer” by Kenneth H Carter Jr. and books are available in the church office for those who have signed up on the poster in the narthex. In observing the 40 days that Christ spent in the desert by studying, praying and being open to the Holy Spirit we prepare ourselves for recognizing Christ’s sacrifice on Good Friday and the glory of the resurrection on Easter.

Communications Meeting

There will be a Communications meeting after church on March 12th.

Maker Space - Decoupage

Ever wondered how to decoupage? Come join us on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 2-5pm as Maker Space sponsors a class on decoupage.  Decoupage is an arts and crafts practice that involves cutting out paper images or items and then gluing them to a surface in a decorative manner. It derives from the word “decouper” which means “to cut out." Please register with Amy Tan-Chan and the registration dateline is March 15, 2017.

UMW Circle

Please join us again for the UMW Fellowship Circle on the third Wednesday March 15th at 10A until noon.  We will be doing a Cards for the Troops project and making and signing cards to be sent to our troops. We will also talk about ideas for new projects and enjoy coffee and fellowship. Please call the office if you want a ride.

Operation School Bell

Please join us on Saturday, March 25th, at 10A to 2P, as we gather for fellowship while we knit/crochet hats and scarves for Operation School Bell.  (This is the program that provides new school clothes and handmade hats and scarves for underprivileged school children in Snohomish County.)  Bring your lunch and stay for as long as you can.  If you use to knit but have forgotten how to cast on or bind off, we will gladly refresh your memory! Want to learn how to knit or crochet? We will help you learn! We will provide yarn, but we also accept donations of any machine washable yarn that may be hiding in the back of your closet.

Pastoral Partners

Pastoral Partners will meet at Lorna Fosth’s residence after church for lunch on Sunday, April 9th.  Pastoral Partners is a care team who individually visit, write notes and phone those who are sick, lonely, bereaved, and/or homebound.  The Pastor makes all assignments.  If you would like to be a member of Pastoral Partners, please contact Rev. Steve Baber and Beth R. Eng, Co-chairman.

Sophia Way Update

The Sophia Way continues to make progress in expanding services for women experiencing homelessness. The Day Center at St. Luke’s Lutheran is now open on weekends as well as during the week, providing lunch, laundry, showers and services to these women who do not have other shelter. This is especially crucial on weekends when other facilities such as libraries may not be open.

This extension of open days also means that meals are needed on weekends as well as week days. The sign-up calendar for both the Day Center and the Night Shelter is available on the Sophia Way website: http://sophiaway.org/meals-calendars/

The Sophia Way continues to need large size clothing for women 2X, 3X and 4X, particularly underwear and bathrobes. These may be dropped off at the Day Center at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church 3030 Bellevue Way.
