Encourage: Look In The Mirror
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you ever speak to yourself while looking in the mirror? In addition, do you ever look beyond your physical appearance? Do you allow your current circumstances to influence the view of yourself? Also, is your vision contingent upon your mood?
For decades, I only used the mirror to see my immediate reflection to assess my outward appearance. The half mirror was for my makeup and hair, and the full-length mirror was a requirement before walking out of the house. I knew that the mirror was a great tool, but did not realize the extent of its power because I really did not love myself. Truthfully, I could not see beyond the broken little girl that was inundated with guilt and shame.
I recall the morning that I looked in the mirror and did not recognize myself, but I clearly heard the voice of God speaking to me. I began to realize the storytelling power of a mirror because I finally addressed that little girl who had been haunting me for over 20 years. To escape the confines of such a dark place, I learned to speak life into myself as I looked in the mirror. Instead of hiding behind my makeup, I embraced my authenticity and saw a woman with a testimony. I am so blessed to say that there truly is a story and now a book behind my praise!
I have been in an unfortunate situation for quite a while, and I often feel like the nights are way too long. Despite my vacillating emotions, I look in the mirror and remind myself that this battle is not mine. I look in the mirror and see an overcomer of several obstacles. I look in the mirror and count the numerous blessings of a new day. I look in the mirror and acknowledge that God is my pilot through the storm on my way to victory. I could easily continue the list because YOU AND I have so many reasons to be encouraged…just look in the mirror!
