“Five Dollars is Five Dollars”
Rev. Greg Ward and Norm Enfield
What is this church worth? What about the denomination? Or the principles of love and justice that we profess? What is any of this really worth? What are the people worth? Their integrity? Their automony to believe as they choose? And what are WE worth? What value can we really put on 'the inherent worth and dignity' that is our first principle? In this service, we will talk about the investments we make and the dividends we enjoy when we live a LIFE-WORTH living.

“A Vulnerable God”
Rev. Dr. Emily Brault and Bonnie Long
We have an addiction in our culture to the Strong and Almighty God. But what about the Vulnerable One? And what does our faith have to do with it? Rev. Dr. Emily Brault explores a little God language and how we can envision our faith in these interesting times.

Thank You WHO Volunteers!
Forty-four volunteers worked a total of 217 hours at the St. Andrews homeless shelter last week. Each evening about 46 people were provided a warm, safe place to sleep and get meals. Staffing the WHO is an annual tradition where UUCV members and friends act out our values in our local community. Thanks to our returning volunteers and those who participated for the first time

You Know Who You Are!
On very short notice, you stepped in to help. Without you it might not have been so successful, and there would have been disappointment. King Elementary staff and UUCV’s School Partnership Projects team thanks YOU. You helped get ready for two community outreach events, Muffins with Moms and Donuts with Dads, and with the big Martin Luther King dinner and celebration on Feb. 10th. You set up tables and chairs, you served food, you talked with children and parents, you danced, you cleaned up: You were there and you were part of it! Great work! Thank you!

Thank You's From King Elementary
Please stop and take a look at the RE bulletin board, in the lobby over the drinking fountain. We’ve displayed some of the Holiday Shop thank-you’s we’ve received from King Elementary. Some of them are truly art work, and all of them are touching. Your generosity has made a real difference to the students and parents at King! We’re continuing our work with King, trying to identify needs that perhaps we can help fulfill.

Vancouver Interfaith Coalition speaks out on behalf of the Marginalized in Southwest Washington
We are grateful to the Columbian for publishing this article sharing the Declaration created by the Vancouver Interfaith Coalition of Southwest Washington (VIC). Rev. Greg spoke on behalf of UUCV and Unitarian Universalism. You can read his speech. If you read the original Interfaith Declaration created by VIC you’ll notice it credits other national Interfaith declarations – two sources of inspiration they drew from were created by Unitarian Universalists.

Kitchen Kitsch: About Towels
Do you have odd towels in your kitchen, or old thinner washcloths? We need some replenishing - can you donate a few to our kitchen? Why not purchase new ones for your kitchen and donate used ones to us, as ours can be faded and mismatched? And, are you a church angel who takes laundry home? If you are one of these, please give Tracy, our Kitchen Coordinator, a call at 360-574-1454 - she would like to coordinate with you.

The Racial Justice Team Discusses Structural Racism
What Is structural racism? Can it be operating right here in our community? While we hear more often about individual racism, structural racism is a huge barrier to achieving the racial equity we desire. Join the conversation as Rory Bowman helps us understand the levels of racism and what it takes to move along the continuum from a predominantly monocultural institution to an “Anti-Racist Multicultural Organization in a Transformed Society.” All are invited to RE Main from 2:30 – 4:30 on Sunday, February 26th.

Send your message to Congress!
Make your voice for positive change heard!
Our Chalice Circle has done much reflection on personally maintaining a positive, effective response to the state of our current US government. As a result of these conversations we are hosting a “postcard project”. Our goal is to send 100 postcards to the U.S. Congress from the congregants of UUCV. We will provide the addressed, stamped postcards, some tips on effective postcard messages, and some short, sample scripts on four current topics of concern. We’ll be in the library after both church services on Sunday, March 5th. Please add your postcard to our stack! Send your statements for positive change to our congressional representative!

"Who Needs the Liberal Arts?"
March 16, 2017, 2 p.m., RE Main, Free
Presented by Dave Collamer
Since 2007 there have been attacks on college Liberal Arts by businesses and corporations as a waste of student time and money in this age of the competitive global economy. Dave argues that not only are the Liberal Arts relevant these days, but are absolutely essential to bachelor-level graduates who are likely to assume positions of leadership, authority, and supervision in our society.
Dave is a retired science teacher with an interest in history and philosophy. He has given many talks to the members of Humanist groups on such topics as Ben Franklin, The Founding Fathers, Socrates, Nietzsche, Neil Postman, and Ethiopia. He and his wife (a former teacher) live in Beaverton and have two sons. He enjoys reading social commentary and giving talks, and coached chess in elementary schools for 3 years. Questions? UUCV Coordinator Needed for SOLVE Beach Clean-up Event
The SOLVE Spring Beach Clean-up is coming up on Saturday, April 1st, and the Mt. Hood Cluster of UU Congregations is hoping to have another good turn-out to help clean up our wonderful beaches.
Emmett Grote was our congregational coordinator last year, but has asked that we find another coordinator this year. It mostly entails encouraging/recruiting volunteers from within our congregation for the event, informing them about the process--where, when, what, who, how--maybe setting up carpool opportunities within our congregation, then showing up!
Once again there will be an after-clean-up potluck at the picnic shelter at Cape Lookout, an opportunity to meet and mingle and break bread with UUs from other congregations.Would you be interested in being the coordinator for our congregation for this event? If so, let me know so I can send you more information. Thank you for considering! Kitty Hibbs for the Green Team: greenteam@uucvan.org
