WELCOME TO 2017

Welcome to the (early) March 2017 edition of ED Q.  As always, there’s plenty happening for business in Golden Plains with a great calendar of training, mentoring and networking set for the coming year.  Work is underway to develop a new Economic Development and Tourism Strategy that will guide our activities from the second half of 2017 through to 2020.  Keep an eye out as we’ll be seeking input from the business community soon.  Finally, we look forward to catching up with you at the upcoming After 5 Networking Event at the world famous Pink Flamingo Bar and Supernatural Amphitheatre in Meredith.  Further details are below.     
 

AFTER 5 NETWORKING EVENT

The next Golden Plains Business After 5 networking event will be held on Thursday 9 March at the site of the world famous Meredith and Golden Plains Music Festivals. 

Attendees will have an opportunity to network  in the Pink Flamingo Bar while listening to guest speaker Greg Peele, Festival Director and cofounder tell the inspirational story of how these festivals grew to become iconic events on the Australian festival scene.
Enjoy this special opportunity to see the festival site set up and ready to host the Golden Plains Music Festival.

FUNDING GETS BANNOCKBURN HEART BEATING

Council has been successful in securing $1.2 million in Federal Government funding to develop stage one of the Bannockburn Civic Heart Precinct.
The funding, announced by Sarah Henderson MP, Federal Member for Corangamite, will help create a vibrant community space next to the Bannockburn Library and Cultural Centre.

25 - 26 MARCH 2017

The Golden Plains Arts Trail will once again see artists and makers from across the Shire opening up their homes and studios to visitors from far and wide.  The Arts Trail is a spectacular showcase of many different mediums as well as a chance to meet with artists and discuss their art.  There’s truly something for everyone.  With so many art lovers and visitors in general touring on the Trail, it’s a great opportunity for tourism and hospitality businesses within Golden Plains.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES 

Applications are now being accepted for one of two $1,000 scholarships on offer from the Geelong Community Foundation. The Tom Cleary Scholarship will support a 16–25 year-old looking to progress a career in agriculture or horticulture. The Rural Education and Retraining Scholarship is open to students enrolled in an agricultural or horticultural course, or a mature aged person seeking retraining. Applications close 16 March.

GOLDEN PLAINS BUSINESS FAIR


The Bannockburn Chamber of Commerce presents the inaugural Golden Plains Business Fair, Saturday 6 May 2017 at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre.  With an anticipated crowd of more than 500 people, it’s a great chance for local businesses to showcase their offerings to the community in the one place. The Business Fair will also provide the opportunity to catch up with other businesses in an informal environment.

STRUCTURE PLAN FOR INVERLEIGH 

Council is preparing a new Structure Plan for Inverleigh.  A structure plan is a document which provides a strategic framework to establish the basis for future land use planning decisions for the town. It indicates a preferred layout of residential, commercial, community and other land uses based on a 15 year outlook. 
The Structure Plan will capture the current identity and character of the town and help guide and shape the future direction of the Inverleigh community.
