With these words, Giannola, on the occasion of the Nonino Prize, opened the celebrations for the 120 years of the Distilleries.
Today, and always, we have been looking to the future of Grappa, respecting the tradition and you, consumers. And this is the reason why, dear Friends, we want to share with you the delicate matter of the ageing of Grappa, which induced Minister Martina to reaffirm rules already in force since 1951, with the Ministerial Decree 747 dated 28.01.2016 (G.U.: no. 31 dated 08.02.2016), in force since last August 1st, 2016, issued to protect consumers and prevent deceitful practices. The Decree reaffirms that the ageing of Grappa must be made in the Ageing Warehouses
under seal and surveillance by the Customs and Monopoly Agency for at least 12 months in the case of the denomination “Grappa Invecchiata (Aged Grappa)” and at least 18 months for the denomination “Grappa Riserva”.
For the Nonino Family this is a first step for the protection of an effective traceability of the product, for a conscious and informed customer. We wish it will be followed by further provisions that oblige to declare on the label the true producer of Grappa, to distinguish him/her from the bottler, and to specify the method of distillation used.
