Estimada Familia SEK.
La solidaridad es un elemento fundamental del proceso educativo, la preocupación por el otro nos convierte en seres más humanos. La comprensión de la realidad contextual y global es fundamental para madurar y entender las necesidades de muchos de los que nos rodean y, solamente entendiendo el problema, se puede encontrar una solución.
La Institución Internacional SEK desarrolla actividades solidarias por todo el planeta, con sus colegios y universidades. Alumnos, familias y docentes pueden ayudar a los que más lo necesitan buscando el bienestar social y dándole el valor necesario a un concepto muchas veces olvidado, la dignidad.
El Club de Alumnos del Colegio SEK Paraguay comenzará su labor social en las próximas semanas, gracias a todos los alumnos por su entusiasmo y participación, siempre es un placer ver como la familia SEK se preocupa por construir un mundo mejor.

Toda una vida en el SEK.
Tras 25 años apostando por la formación de sus hijas en el Colegio SEK-Paraguay, se graduó la menor de las hermanas Alderete. Una familia muy comprometida con la Institución y que formó y formarán parte siempre de la historia de nuestro colegio. Rosemarie, Sonia, Marcela y Sandra son las hermanas que han transitado por nuestras aulas en todos estos años, dejando una huella profunda en todos nosotros.
Nuestro agradecimiento a la familia Alderete Benítez por la confianza depositada en el Colegio y en la Institución. Ya saben que ésta es su casa.

Centenario Augusto Roa Bastos.
Nació en Asunción el 13 de junio de 1.917. Fue novelista, cuentista y guionista. Considerado en nuestro país como el autor más representativo. Ganador del Premio Cervantes en 1.989. Su obra se caracteriza por el retrato de la cruda realidad del pueblo paraguayo a través de la recuperación de la historia , la reivindicación de su carácter de nación bilingüe y la reflexión sobre el poder en todas sus manifestaciones.
Para conmemorar los 100 años de Augusto Roa Bastos , los Departamentos de Español, Historia y Arte presentarán una serie de proyectos a ser desarrollados por los alumnos de los distintos ciclos a lo largo del curso lectivo. El objetivo general se centra en : “ Conocer las variadas facetas artísticas de este prolífico escritor”.
Como primera actividad se entregará a los alumnos un material de lectura del autor, el cual será leído, analizado y evaluado.

Comenzamos el año reviviendo a Roa Bastos, conociendo el contexto histórico social de su obra y disfrutando del entorno natural del colegio.
Este año conmemoramos su centenario, trabajando su legado con proyectos multidisciplinarios.

Science
The world of science is broad and extensive. Therefore taking its best to the classroom brings out the need to use a variety of different and interactive approaches in class. Visual aids, group work, reading strategies and even games such as contests or debates get students engaged during the process of learning and discovery of new things. Our science lab is always ready for students so that they can put into practice the steps of the scientific method, which will bring fun activities along with the Science Fair. This year we experiment with fun and science!

Real Madrid Foundation
Implemented in 2014, the Real Madrid Foundation (RMF) selected Hout Bay International School as its base of operations for a start-up community project to use football to positively impact the social world of underprivileged students within the local community. Currently HBIS has over 50 students from schools in Imizamo Yethu, Hangberg and other parts of Hout Bay attending its RMF training sessions every Monday and Friday afternoon. The RMF provides the structure of the programme and the use of its name, while HBIS funds the entire programme which includes the cost of the coaches, equipment, uniforms and return transport etc. Due to the incredible demand, and interest from students around Hout Bay, HBIS partnered with Soccer Biz last year to assist in running the programme. We are incredibly proud to offer such an amazing community outreach project and would like to invite some of our own students to join should they have the time and willingness to commit to such an outreach programme. Besides being taught valuable social skills through the vehicle of Football, it is a wonderful opportunity for our students to interact with other students from all around Hout Bay.

SEK Budapest Participates in Green Week Costa Rica!
Just a few days and we’re off!
Mr. Nicholas, four fellow students and I are all excited about leaving for Costa Rica next Friday for the SEK Green Week 2017. I’ve read every single description which is available online about Costa Rica, and I’ve also bought the National Geographic tour guide to the country. This is the first time that I’ve been given a chance to travel to the Caribbean.
What I know for sure is that this program has been popular among SEK schools. We’re staying with host families, and we’re going to be able to discover the wonders of nature every day. We’re also preparing for an adventure tour in different places such as near a volcano which is still active, in a cave, on a white sandy beach and a rope bridge. We’re also excited about going on a boat tour among crocodiles and rafting in wild water – all this surrounded by one of the most bio-diverse places on earth with exotic flora and fauna! The whole week’s program sounds like a fantastic experience!
Our journey from Budapest will be long; we’ll be leaving from Budapest for San Jose and we’re going to welcome the summer in our winter coats. I think it’ll feel strange to pack shorts, bathing suits, flip-flops, sun-cream and insect repellent in February. I hope that I’ll be able to benefit from what I’ve learnt in my photography course and take awesome pictures about the scenery. Just to be on the safe side, I’ve already set the equipment.
I can’t wait to meet all the other SEK students because it’s going to be fun to get to know them all and hear about their lives, cultures and opinions. I must admit it’s getting more and more difficult to concentrate on my studies as my thoughts are already on the plane to Costa Rica. I’m sure it’ll be an unforgettable experience.

¡Misión cumplida!: USEK ayuda a los damnificados del sur de Chile
Una emotiva jornada se vivió durante la entrega de canastas familiares a los afectados por los incendios en la VI región de nuestro país.
Familias enteras lo perdieron todo. El fuego arrasó sin discriminación con cerros y prados de la localidad de Pumanque, donde representantes y alumnos de USEK fueron como voluntarios a entregar un granito de arena a la gente que, hasta ese momento, no recibía ayuda.
El Coordinador de Asuntos Estudiantiles de la Universidad SEK, Felipe Sandoval Beltrán, manifestó que “la experiencia fue algo que la universidad necesita. Se hizo campaña y estuvimos presente”.
Además agregó que con esto “estamos realizando vida universitaria” algo que los mismos alumnos han pedido.
La comunidad USEK se siente orgullosa de sus alumnos por esta gran iniciativa, recolectando distintos productos en los centros de acopio en las sedes de Santiago y el aporte que realizó la misma Universidad.
Podemos decir ¡MISIÓN CUMPLIDA! Nuestros voluntarios se devolvieron a Santiago con el corazón lleno de felicidad al ver la alegría de las familias ayudadas.
Agradecemos a todos los que participaron en esta campaña de ayuda. A los voluntarios que estuvieron en los centros de acopio, a la Dirección de Asuntos Estudiantiles, a la Institución Internacional SEK por el importante aporte en mercadería para los damnificados, de los centros de estudiantes que fueron los protagonistas de esta gran cruzada solidaria y quién nos recibió y coordinó en la zona afectada, don Emilio Soto, ex concejal de Pumanque.
