Against multi-tasking

In many walks of life, the ability to juggle multiple activities at once is often highly-prized. Some lunchtimes I can sit at my desk, eat a sandwich, take a call and browse my e-mails all at the same time. This normally leaves me with indigestion, amnesia and unanswered e-mails.

And so on Sunday - as apart of our celebration of all things sabbath - we remember the virtues of mono-tasking and we rebel against a world that demands more, more, more.

If you'd like to join the 3 of us who are going to a special planning meeting ahead of the May assembly (see below) then it's taking place THIS SATURDAY from 2pm - 5pm at the University of Manchester Students Union. Let me know if you'd like to come along.

Inspire Church and Community Centre are joining the Greater Manchester Citizens Movement. Just like its sister organisation - London Citizens - that has been the driving force behind the London Living Wage, GM Citizens is being developed to speak truth to power in Greater Manchester. It's first BIG gathering of churches, mosques and other community organisations will be on Monday 1st May at the Lowry from 2-4pm where ordinary people like us will challenge prospective mayoral candidates about their policies on health, social care, living wage and other topics. We are all invited to take part and you can sign up here.

Wellbeing Wednesdays

As part of our sabbath practice, we are encouraging the whole church to take special time out every Wednesday to STOP & PRAY. Ideally it would be good to do this between 6 and 7pm - even if only for 5 minutes.

If you want to go the extra mile then you could try fasting beforehand - perhaps skip breakfast or lunch beforehand - or even both.

And why not make a special occasion of it by eating together too. Have a family meal and say a short prayer together, invite some of your friends over to eat together with you. Or how about come down to Inspire cafe where they will be serving hot food and family meals from 6-8pm every Wednesday evening.

And here's another idea - how about avoiding social media for the evening and meeting or phoning someone instead?

Whatever you choose to do - make your Wednesday evening mindful and special.

Daytrip to Buxton - 11 June - we're planning another fun Sunday in Buxton like last year (see picture above) - all welcome.

Greenbelt 2017 - 25-28 August it's been a few years since we went as a group but this year we're planning another Inspire Church encampment - book soon to get cheaper prices.
