Nyepi "A Day of Silence"
Nyepi at Kuta
Nyepi is the Balinese New Year according to the Hindu calendar and is observed by a day of silence and reflection. During Nyepi no fires may be lit, no works is allowed nor travelling, no traffic is allowed, not only cars but also people whilst all people have to stay within the confines of their family compound. There is usually Pecalangs (traditional Balinese security man) who controls and checks for street security. Their main task is not only to control the security of the street but also to stop any activities that disturb Nyepi. This day of silence marks the start of the Hindu Year ‘Ҫaka’ 1938 which falls on Tuesday, 28 March 2017 from 6 AM till 29 March 2017 at 6 AM.

The activities leading up to Nyepi  are fascinating to watch such as :
Melasti or Mekiyis or Melis (three days before Nyepi)
The ceremony is aimed to clean all nature and its content  to the sea or river in long and colourful ceremonies. They are bathed by the Neptune of the Balinese Lord, the God Baruna, before being taken back home to their shrines. The ceremony takes place at the rivers, beaches including the Kuta Beach.
Tawur Kesangan / Pengerupukan (the day before Nyepi)
It is the  last  day  of  the old  year  when demon soothing ceremonies are held everywhere to calm the evil spirits  to  ensure they do not interfere with the humans living on the island. In the evening, the young people of Bali bang gongs and cymbals in every corner of the family compound and parade through the streets with flaming torches and evil looking statues called Ogoh-ogoh.
The  Kuta Village Ogoh-ogoh Parade will start around 6 PM start from Point Zero in Jl. Legian and eventually ends up at the Art Market, Kuta Beach.
Ngembak Geni (the day after Nyepi)
Ngembak is the day when Catur Berata Penyepian is over and Hindus societies usually visit to forgive each other. On this day in Kuta, the population of Kuta will go to the beach celebrating the New Year with their families & friends where The Pasar Majelangu takes place the whole day after Nyepi along Kuta Beach.

Nana
Nana - GRO

She has joined the GIK Family since November 2015 as GRO. This friendly and energetic young lady always looks for something different to fill her days and she finds it by meeting people. She believes there is something she can learn every time she communicates to others.
One of the happiest experience she had was when she helped a guest who lost his luggage at the airport that required her to call  the airport many times to get the information. It was an inconvenience situation until the luggage finally found that made her so happy. Nana has Japanese blood from her Grandmother, no wonder she can speak in Japanese besides English and this certainly helps her to proactively communicate to the Japanese guest. Meet her at the lobby should you need any assistance during your stay at Grand Inna Kuta.
