2017 WIBRD Launch at the Commodore on the Park
Over 145 people from around the region attended our 2017 launch on Friday the 24th of February at the Commodore on the Park. The night was jam packed as ever with the announcement of the 2017 Entrepreneurial scholarship winners, an introduction to all 2017 sponsors as well as a lovely speech from 2016 WIBRD Hall of Fame inductee Elaine Pollock. A very big thank you to Cathy Lunnay for hosting the evening, Paisley13 for kindly donating their time and beautiful music and of course Thank you to Jess and Tom from the Commodore on the Park for providing such a lovely event. We had some amazing prizes donated as give aways on the night from Beaurepaires Mount Gambier, Barbara Lightburn, Josephine Patzel Massage Therapist & Aromatherapist & Moments to Savour.

Congratulations to our two Entrepreneurial Scholarship Winners
An intensive judging process has now been completed for the WIBRD Entrepreneurial Scholarships for 2017 with four finalists being shortlisted and the two winners Kelsie Prowse of The Apple Farm and Caitlin Zukauskas of Luxe Glamping announced at the WIBRD 2017 Launch at the Commodore on the Park.
According to the WiBRD Scholarship Committee Chair, Fiona Pulford, “we are very proud of the number and calibre of all entries to the scholarships. The variety of talent and innovation within the Green Triangle is incredible; we have been highly impressed by the standard, with so many of the applicants demonstrating  entrepreneurial potential through setting up a new business and taking on financial risks in the hope of profit. They should all be very proud of what they have achieved and the number of applicants demonstrates the growing number of entrepreneurial talent our region has to offer.  The number of submissions is a strong indication that this new and exciting initiative of the WIBRD is considered a step in the right direction by providing further opportunities for local business operators to support and collaborate.”
The two scholarships offered by Women in Business & Regional Development were developed to support the establishment and fostering of entrepreneurs and up and coming business women in our region who demonstrate entrepreneurial potential through setting up a new business, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit along with ongoing involvement in networking.  Valued at over $1500 each, the scholarships are available to entrepreneurs and/or up and coming businesswomen in the Limestone Coast & Green Triangle area who demonstrate entrepreneurial potential.

5 Minutes with Jessica Kilsby..
1. Who is Jess Kilsby?

I was born and bred in Mount Gambier being one of three girls, sisters Karlie and Brydie and parents Peter and Kerrie Sims. Went through primary school at St Pauls then onto Tenison Woods College before moving to Adelaide to study a Bachelor of Business Degree majoring in Property at Uni SA. I lived, studied and worked as a property valuer in Adelaide for 11 years before moving back to Mount Gambier in 2014 after my husband Jono Kilsby and I had our little boy Tyler. We have happily settled back into the country lifestyle where I now work 3 days a week at Opteon Property Group as a Commercial Valuer.
2. Your main professional areas/jobs you have worked in over the years.
I commenced my professional work at m3property in Adelaide as a property research analyst whilst I was studying at university, after completing my study I became a residential property valuer within the firm then after two years on the job I completed my professional interview to become further qualified to undertake commercial/industrial/retail valuations. I was a commercial property valuer at m3property for approximately 6 years before going on maternity leave and during this time leaving the company to move to Mount Gambier.
I commenced work with Opteon Property Group in 2015 joining Yasmin Warren our residential property valuer to expand our local team covering all aspects of the property market. I predominately concentrate on Industrial, Commercial, Retail and some Rural valuations, however also assist with residential valuations.
3. What is the Biggest challenge you have faced in your career so far?
I would say the biggest challenge I have faced professionally would be being a young female working in a male dominated field, particularly when undertaking industrial valuations. It can sometimes be a challenge earning the respect of some clients in this industry.  Personally the biggest challenge I have faced would be since having my 2.5 year old Tyler working out the best work/life balance without jeopardising my work requirements and without the horrid feeling of ‘mothers guilt’.
4. Your favourite place to visit in the Green Triangle area.
Without a doubt my favourite place to visit is Beachport. We have a family beach house in Beachport and have been holidaying there for as long as I remember. I love the close community at Beachport having made lifetime friends and the beaches are amazing. In summer we get to Beachport most weekends.
5. Recommendation for our members to focus on/ take away.
Being part of a group like Women in Business provides great networking opportunities both professionally and personally. The property industry is a small industry where building up relationships with clients and other professionals in the field is invaluable. I highly recommend all members and any non-members thinking of joining to attend as many event as possible that The Women in Business group provide as it is so important to keep this group not only existing but to enable expansion in the future years.

After much consideration and member feedback from a survey of our network, Women in Business & Regional Development are proud to continue with our involvement in the ANZ Mortgage Introducer Program
This opportunity by our Major Sponsor ANZ  has enabled WIBRD to receive funding to the tune of $2,952 to support the sustainability of our network through a mortgage introducer program whereby WIBRD receive 0.3% on residential loans and 0.6% of commercial loans from ANZ when members and sponsors of WIBRD mention their association with Women in Business & Regional Development.
All money raised from this program will go back towards  supporting women in the Limestone Coast to achieve their educational goals,  and operational costs for the WIBRD network to ensure our sustainability and ability to offer our members cost effective training and events.
The WIBRD involvement in the program does not mean that we recommend the ANZ mortgage products over other mortgage products offered in the sector, and all people getting a loan are advised to perform their own due diligence in deciding what product is best for you or your business needs.  All dealings with the ANZ Bank are kept confidential and are not passed on to WIBRD.
