What's Next
Following the results of Thursday’s Assembly Election today (6th March) the Secretary of State, James Brokenshire MP, began talks with Party Leaders aimed at restoring power in Stormont.

This is ahead of further talks which will include the Irish Foreign Minister Charlie Flanagan TD believed to be scheduled for Wednesday.

There are three weeks in which an agreement can be made on the make up of the next Northern Ireland Executive. This timeframe has been described by the Secretary of State as a "limited window."

Following this three-week period, if there is no agreement, the Secretary of State can, call for a second election, or seek powers in Westminster up to and including Direct Rule. Should we see a return to Direct Rule Northern Ireland Office Ministers would take control of our Departments.
